Joining our friendly Financial Accounts team as our VAT expert, the role would ideally suit someone with a strong tax background. It is a great opportunity to develop your own knowledge and experience, providing advice and tax services to various customers, including charity and public sector bodies. Details about the Client We look after the historic environment, providing expert advice, helping people protect and care for it, and helping the public to understand and enjoy it. We are the public body that looks after England's historic environment. We champion historic places, helping people understand, value and care for them. We manage the National Heritage List for England: from its origins in 1882, it has grown to include almost 400,000 items ranging from prehistoric monuments to office blocks, battlefields and parks. They all benefit from legal protection. Detailed Job Description Managing the preparation of the quarterly VAT returns and annual corporation tax returns of the HE Group and DCMS in a timely and efficient manner. Includes: Capital Goods Scheme Membership annual adjustment Partial exemption annual review EC Sales list Opt to Tax Double Tax Relief Ensuring that the partial exemption methodologies for the Historic England Group remain fair and reasonable and in line with legislation. Undertaking taxation reviews on projects and other significant business areas, providing knowledge and support to the organisation as a whole. Undertaking policy reviews in relation to taxation matters, ensuring knowledge is up to date and relevant, updating management in a timely manner. Advising the Head of Financial Accounts and Systems and Senior Financial Accountant (Non-Capital) on non-Payroll taxation issues (including VAT and Corporation Tax ) affecting HE and all customers , to ensure that taxation liabilities are minimised, as far as legally possible. Managing reconciliations relating to taxation and being responsible for communicating and resolving queries with HE and all customers. Reviewing purchase and sales transactions and ensuring correct VAT treatment. Producing training on taxation matters for the use of the wider organisation and providing training as requested by the business or where needs are identified. Other Supporting and assisting the Financial Accounts team when required. Assisting all customers with regards to Gift Aid queries and calculations. Candidate's Profile Part-Qualified ATT/CTA or equivalent Relevant accounting and taxation experience Understanding of the impacts of taxation on businesses in the government and charitable sectors Good written and oral communication skills Familiarity with accounting systems and general computer literacy Flexible team player Deadline orientated Methodical approach Attention to detail Proactive What's on offer Part Time Hours (25- 30 hours) – Reduced over 5 days a week or over 4 long days.
