Digital Front End Developer / Newcastle upon Tyne / 6 Months Contract / 300 to 450 GBP (Per Day) **IR35 Status**The client has stated that this role is In Scope of the new off pay-role worker legislation** As a Frontend Developer at HMRC, you will build services that have a positive impact upon millions of users. Using agile methods, you will be involved in all elements of development, with a relentless focus on quality, accessibility and usability. You will be involved in service design, code build, test, maintenance and support. We need a team of flexible, skilled developers with a love of web technology to realise our digital objectives. Our digital business runs the IT behind tax and benefits services for 45 million individuals and 4.9 million business customers. As a Frontend Developer you will: - write well structured, beautiful and effective code - see unit testing as essential, not as an afterthought - release code to millions of users multiple times a sprint - be proud of your work and confident it will perform at scale - pair daily with like-minded and highly skilled professionals - be exposed to our platform architecture and learn why we practice DevOps - assist in architecting systems and applications - be an integral part of an agile team You need to be skilled at: - building responsive applications with HTML5, CSS3 and JavaScript at their core - utilising and creating core Frontend frameworks - building modular components that are device and browser agnostic and that gracefully degrade - using a build pipeline to automate tasks (Gulp/Grunt) - managing dependencies using a package manager (NPM/Webpack/Browserify) - Test Driven Development (TDD) - we take this seriously - Git - Linux (the command line is your friend) Tools and technologies that we currently use (and you will need to use too): - HTML5 - CSS3 / SASS - JavaScript - Express / Play Framework - Scala / Java We'd like you to be excited about: - code quality - all aspects of automated testing - build pipelines - non-blocking IO - semantic, accessible code - mobile first / responsive design - testing your service with real users - working with designers to ensure quality components from the start If you match these requirements, please apply in the normal way.
