Altran is recruiting Virtual/Augmented-Reality Developers to work at our Bristol offices. Your role As the team's resident expert in virtual- and augmented reality, you will be guiding and advising a team of developers and engineers defining the next generation of engineering tools. The team will be developing and evolving a number of prototypes and you will need to be able to move between the various projects, applying and sharing you knowledge and experience. Role and Responsibilities: You will need to have the confidence to design and implement a complete virtual or augmented reality experience, potentially from scratch. A strong foundation in developing in tools such as Unity, specifically applied to AR or VR is essential. You will be capable of producing high quality C#, but will also need to balance this with rapid development of functionality when prototyping. Expect to have an active role in requirements definition, and you will be providing input to architectural and design decisions, helping to create a clearer understanding of our customers' viewpoints. All this will be done as part of a larger team of software developers and domain experts, who will all be looking to you to guide their understanding and decisions in all matters related to VR/AR. Any successful candidate will be expected to have provable development and development and design skills, and be able to demonstrate the ability to quickly gain an understanding of topics beyond just software (from the complex mechanics of a jet engine to computational fluid dynamics). Although the majority of work is distilling the complexities of our customers' domains in to intuitive, modern and productive user experience, customer-facing skills are absolutely essential, as is the desire to work as part of a team to overcome challenges that are not always purely software- or AR/VR-related. You'll be involved in fascinating work, and will need to spend time researching possibilities and designing and implementing creative solutions, but doing so with the aim of getting the work done, completed in good time and effectively. Responsibilities: - Providing general VR/AR expertise and advice within a bright and creative team of developers, designers, ergonomists and engineers. - Providing advice to developers and assisting with system design and architecture decisions. - Educating customers and developers of the various AR/VR solutions available, and their merits. - Implementing a range of VR/AR user experiences while working with application developers to define efficient, extensible interfaces between the AR/VR and any engineering business logic code. Your profile The engineers who will used the tools you create are working in cutting-edge and highly-challenging environments, requiring the whole team to be technically highly capable. Having a flexible can-do attitude, and the intellect to deliver solutions to potentially very complex problems is essential. You will be working with bright people, in an environment that promotes autonomy, collaboration and using your initiative. Due to the nature of this role, producing the tools that help design aircraft, we are looking for people with a drive to deliver quality, on time, and a user experience that does the best for our customers. Qualifications / Technical Skills: - A solid understanding of AR/VR application design philosophies and their effective application. - Knowledge of wide range AR/VR libraries, frameworks, architectures, design patterns, tools and approaches, with the experience to make informed decisions about which to use and when. - Skilled in rapid prototyping. - A strong grounding in 3D graphics, and user interaction with them. - Able to producing innovative solutions that take full advantage of the immersive environment provided by AR/VR. - Able to fully educate and inform users and developers on a range of UX-related topics to enable informed decision making by product owners and the rest of the team. Adept at capturing user requirements and identifying the most effective application of AR/VR. - Able to form a working understanding of potentially complex engineering domains. - Well versed in working to regular deadlines in a team environment. There will be many opportunities at all levels and we would expect all team members to be willing to take on new challenges and responsibilities as their experience grows. In addition to the culture and career development opportunities at Altran, we offer a matched pension scheme, healthcare and generous holiday allowance.
