Job Title: Hosting and Storage Manager Location: Edinburgh Salary: £30,776 - £36,124 per annum Job Type: Permanent, Full Time Closing Date: 18th October 2017 Midday Reports To: Service Operations Manager The Client: Our Client are the lead body for Scotland's historic environment; a charity dedicated to the advancement of heritage, culture, education and environmental protection. They are at the forefront of researching and understanding the historic environment, and addressing the impact of climate change on its future. They investigate and record architectural and archaeological sites and landscapes across Scotland and care for more than 300 properties of national importance. They have a People Strategy which will be an overarching strategy to which ensures they support and develop staff within the organisation. The Role: The successful post-holder will lead a small, specialist team responsible for the planning, implementation, configuration and tuning of storage hardware and software, covering online, offline, remote and offsite data storage. The post will also manage priorities and available resources to also satisfy service development project needs where feasible. Your role will focus on the: - Planning, implementation, configuration and tuning of storage hardware and software covering online, offline, remote and offsite data storage (backup, archiving and recovery) and ensuring compliance with regulatory and security requirements - The operation and control of the IT infrastructure (typically hardware, hypervisors, operating systems, software, data stored on various media, and all equipment within wide and local area networks) required to deliver and support IT services and products to meet the needs of the business. Accountabilities: - Manage storage and backup systems to provide agreed service levels - Create, improve, and support quality IT services with optimal utilisation of storage resources, ensuring data security, availability and integrity of business data - Review capacity, performance, availability and other operational metrics and take appropriate action to ensure corrective and proactive maintenance of storage and backup systems to support the requirement to protect and secure business information - Plan and implement new installations and scheduled maintenance and changes within the system - Prepare and maintain operational procedures for hosting and storage - Manage the physical and virtual hosting infrastructure to provide agreed service levels - Manage and maintain the server operating systems for all HES-hosted services and applications - Manage and maintain core infrastructure services including Active Directory, ADFS, system monitoring, anti-virus - Improve and support quality IT services with optimal utilisation of hosting resources, ensuring data security, availability and integrity of business data - Review capacity, performance, availability and other operational metrics and take appropriate action to ensure corrective and proactive maintenance of hosting systems to support the requirement to protect and secure business information Knowledge, skills and experience We will assess that you meet the essential requirements listed below as part of the selection process. Essential requirements: - Experience of leading a team within one or more IT functions - Demonstrable experience of planning the work of a team including prioritising, scheduling and estimating work packages and monitoring team progress and utilisation - Demonstrable success in communicating with business colleagues, in particular with the ability to communicate complex IT and technical information in ways that non-technical colleagues understand - Strong technical IT background with experience relevant to the domain. Demonstrable experience in using this knowledge to coach, develop and advise others (i.e. using specialist knowledge in a leadership context) - Demonstrable experience of operating in a strictly controlled, secure operational environment and delivering services to agreed SLAs - Demonstrable experience of ensuring continuity of operations during major incidents or disaster situations - Understanding of ITIL principles and processes.
