Our client is a Glasgow auction house offering a style of service seen in only a handful of houses outside London. Dedicated auctions are held every five weeks in all major categories, including Scottish pictures, silver, jewellery, watches, coins, Asian works of art, furniture, militaria, ceramics, clocks, whisky, wine and Scottish contemporary art. A full time vacancy has arisen for a Trainee Valuer to work on the busy Valuation Counter. The position involves welcoming clients to being the first point of contact between clients and Valuation Staff, unpacking items brought in for sale, working with the Valuation Staff to provide valuations, cataloguing items for sale, participating in internal and external valuation events, as well as more general auction duties as required to include saleroom set up, sale checking, viewing, internet bidding operation, clerking, telephone bidding, etc. Previous auction house experience and knowledge of categories of art and antiques would be beneficial but all circumstances will be considered. Other key skills are excellent communication and people skills, knowledge of or interest in the auction market and trends, superior customer service, highly organised and motivated to succeed. Salary range £15500-17000 DOE. The position is full time, Mon-Fri 8.30-5, Saturday mornings on a rota basis and Sunday/evening auction days on a rota basis.
