Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

Within an Agile team, you will be working collaboratively with the Development, BA & QA teams and be responsible for the Missguided site and supporting systems. The role will be a mix of “hands-on” development as well as guiding the team technically.

You will be involved various projects, which range from small day-to-day BAU changes to long-term projects such as systems integration. You will also collaborate closely with all IT disciplines and other business functions, having a view of projects from their inception through to deployment.

Reporting to the Development Manager and Head of Development, your key responsibilities will be to manage the day-to-day workload of the PHP Development team and ensure that projects are delivered on-time and on-budget. You will also take ownership of the quality of the team’s output and ensure that all code follows best practices as well as contribute to setting goals and objectives for team members. There will also be the opportunity to play a significant role in the direction of the technical landscape in conjunction with the architecture & management team.

Specific Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

·Technically lead and guide the PHP Development team in a collaborative manner, encouraging the team to come up with ideas rather than dictating how things should be done.

·Become a key source of technical knowledge of Missguided systems and how they work together.

·Promote the concept of “excellent service to the internal & external customer” within the team

·Collaborate with Business Analysts, Scrum Masters and Project Managers to facilitate project delivery

·Evaluate existing development processes, identifying inefficiencies, bottlenecks and proposing solutions

·Coordination, assessment and planning of releases into Production environments

·Peer review of code from both internal and third party Software Engineers, promoting best practices and quality of code

·Involvement and feedback throughout the recruitment process for technical staff

·Work closely with the Development Manager in identifying areas for improvement and areas of excellence within the team.

·Devise group and individual training objectives in conjunction with the Development Manager

·Work closely with the other Team Leads in ensuring all practices and standards are aligned

·Work closely with the Release Engineer/Manager to facilitate smooth deployment of code

·Any other activities as outlined by the Development Manager or Head of Development

Skills, Experience and QualificationsEssential:

·Strong knowledge and experience of Object Oriented PHP

·Knowledge of MySQL and relational databases

·Minimum of 5 years of commercial experience

·Minimum 2 years of leading, motivating, mentoring & coaching software engineers.

·Experience as a technical lead, including the setting of objectives, goals & individual training plans to build a high performing and productive team, nurturing talent and bringing out the best out of the development team.

·Understanding of MVC frameworks

·Experience of using project management tools such as JIRA

·Familiarity with the LAMP stack

·Comfortable working with Git or another version control system in a team environment.

·Happy using the command line interface as part of your workflow.

·Knowledge of Agile software development methodologies

·Knowledge of DevOps and provisioning tools, such as Puppet or Chef

·Pragmatic & flexible approach to Agile development, accepting that compromise is sometimes required to deliver value to the business

·Commercial awareness, understanding how deliverables add value to Missguided and communicate this to the team

·Working knowledge of current testing processes and methodologies

·Be able to self-manage their own workload

·Work in a fast-paced in environment with ever-changing priorities and requirements

·Ability to multi-task and juggle both individual tasks as well as oversee team tasks

·Attention to detail and pride in your work.

·Clear verbal and written communication. Comfortable talking in the appropriate style to both technical and non-technical teams.

·Be a self-starter and able to work on your own initiative.

·Be able to influence and lead by example.

Desirable:

·Magento development experience

·Zend Certification

·Experience with Node.js

·Knowledge and the willingness to cross-train in other languages such as, Ruby, Java, C# etc

·Knowledge of Microservices

·Automation, particularly automated testing and continuous integration and deployment.

·Scaling web systems, particularly Magento or other e-commerce platforms.

·Familiarity with TDD and/or BDD

·Experience of working with AWS and associated technologies

·Experience of working with Jenkins
