About the role
We are looking for a bright, tenacious and pro-active individual to help build our Legal Compliance and Ethics function, and provide the business with advice in respect of legal compliance and ethics risk areas.
Serving as a regulatory & compliance counsel for Serco’s UK and Europe division”)) supporting the diverse and complex set of legal, compliance and ethics activities of the UK Division of a global business.
Key responsibilities and accountabilities will include advising on and promoting compliance with laws and business ethics principles and developing, implementing and improving Serco’s policies, standard and procedures in this area with a view to reducing the risk of non-compliance and promoting best practice.

- Advise on and actively promote compliance with laws, regulations and business ethics principles and Serco’s ethics and compliance standards, policies and procedures.
Work closely with the AGC – Regulatory & Compliance and the Group Business Compliance & Ethics team to develop, embed and improve Serco’s ethics and compliance standards, policies and procedures including those relating to Speak Up, Anti-Bribery & Corruption, Conflicts of Interest, Export Controls, Sanctions, Human Rights, Modern Slavery Act and Third Party Due Diligence.
Develop a deep understanding and subject matter expertise in regulatory, compliance and business ethics matters relevant to Serco’s UK business and keep colleagues up-to-date on developments.
Support the AGC – Regulatory & Compliance to develop and implement a risk based compliance assurance plan in conjunction with other sector and functional compliance leads.
Ensure instances of non-compliance or a failure to act with business integrity or ethical good practice identified are fully investigated in a timely manner and make appropriate recommendations for improvement or corrective action.
Work closely with the Assurance team on Ethics and Compliance reviews across the business to identify areas of improvement.
Manage and work with external lawyers on ethics & compliance matters to achieve successful and cost effective outcomes for Serco.
Support the Ethics Reporting Manager in the day to day management of Speak Up cases and Gifts & Hospitality Register.
Proactively liaise and develop relationships with regulatory bodies and represent Serco at compliance & ethics industry bodies and working groups.
Work with the Divisional Values & Integrity Network to champion Serco’s values and the importance of business integrity, promoting and embedding Serco’s ethics policies, and code of conduct and Values across the UK and Europe division.
Collaborate with business units and departments (e.g. legal, procurement, internal audit, human resources, and communications) to raise awareness of the compliance and ethics program and ensure accountability for adherence to the program.
Develop and deliver ethics & compliance training for the UK and Europe division.
- Qualified lawyer with regulatory compliance experience and a strong interest in business ethics. Consideration will be given to individuals with other professional qualifications and a proven track record of in-house compliance & ethics experience.
Experience of corporate ethics and compliance programmes.

Excellent written and verbal communication and senior stakeholder management skills.
