The Systems Engineering team is responsible for the design and deployment of solutions across the UK and Worldwide. The infrastructure and equipment deployed typically utilise the core systems and products from Traffic Solutions product portfolio. The role primarily requires the taking of existing products and solutions and deploying these to customers with some degree of customisation - an example would be our traffic control system supports standard internet style communications but a typical installation may require a mix of wireless, wired and fibre optic communications. This would be where the applications engineer applies their expertise to create the solution for a customer from standard building blocks. The systems engineering team are key within the Traffic Solutions business delivering a broad set of responsibilities - both on customer projects and supporting new product developments with real world testing and expertise. Senior Systems Engineers are responsible primarily for the delivery of small customer projects of typical value £5-£100k that include aspects requiring bespoke engineering solutions. We also work closely with Project Management and internal development on major projects. In addition, the role requires the support of tendering for new work, generating technical proposals and costs as well as assisting our customer support team when required. The technology used in traffic solutions are Variable Message Signs, Automatic Number Plate Recognition, Journey time monitoring (Bluetooth) and Urban Traffic Control. Comparable skills and experience might be working with industrial automation solutions using PLCs over wide areas or IT support professionals with experience of solutions such as VMware as well as networking and communications expertise. Innovation and process development form an important part of the Siemens values, particularly in the delivery of new and bespoke products and solutions. What are my responsibilities? - Develop detailed costs and technical solutions, including technical proposal documentation for new customer projects and tenders - Project delivery. Deliver customer projects in the UK and overseas, working as a key customer facing contact and taking responsibility for delivery against time and financial budgets. Also working within a Project Managed team as the technical lead to deliver larger scope projects and solutions - Identify and implement process and product change resulting in safety, cost, or customer improvements - Maintain existing customer relationships through ad-hoc customer support and remote or onsite assistance. Identify opportunities for new business, escalating where appropriate - Act as technical expert in appropriate products & solutions, being a "goto" source of expertise - Working in collaboration with other engineering teams, take responsibility for the customer deployment capability of new products, ensuring that project delivery is an important factor in the development requirements - Proactively share knowledge in a systematic way to grow know-how base and support the wider business What experience do I need to apply for this role? - Typically BSc/BA in related STEM discipline or advanced degree or equivalent (essential) - Proven capability to improve existing methods and approaches. Ideas generator and problem solver for new and practical solutions (essential) - A self starting problem solver who actively seeks out challenges to better the status quo (essential) - Flexibility to accommodate scheduled working across the UK and internationally (essential) - Experience in IP communications (routing, switching, and VPN for network design), and troubleshooting and implementation - Experience in Linux and Windows environment configuration, and virtualisation including VM Ware - Experience in Cloud and IT infrastructure deployments and migration - Experience or understanding of the product technologies used in traffic management solutions such as Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) The Siemens Mobility Division with approximately 3,500 employees, focuses on sustainable technologies for metropolitan areas and their infrastructures.
