High Level Software provides SaaS software in the form of a Property Management System supplying the hotel/hospitality industry. The company has enjoyed a meteoric rise from start-up to established SaaS provider serving hundreds of hoteliers across the UK - and all in four short years. After a recent partnership with Zonal (market leaders in hospitality software) the company is focused more than ever on achieving the big ambitions for our customers. The company still retains the feel of a start-up with rapid development cycles where great ideas can become reality for customers in a matter of weeks. But we can only achieve this by following development best practice across the board and it's the dedicated team, both technical and non-technical, who come together to make it possible. We're seeking a permanent PHP Developer with extensive commercial experience of developing scalable applications. The role will focus heavily on maintaining and developing new features for the HLS Property Management System (the SaaS product at the core of the business). The product is undergoing considerable change as we evolve to meet the demands of our customers. On a technical level, we're exploring exciting changes in the form of microservices and utilising the latest on offer from the Laravel framework. This is an opportune time at which to join the team and influence the future of the product at a technical level. We're dedicated to rapid release cycles so your experience and attention to detail will be paramount to ensure we hit the mark first time. The entire system is coded in the Laravel framework so experience with this is a distinct advantage, however, experience with other PHP MVC frameworks will also be considered. The Technical spec Essential - 3+ years in a backend commercial development role - Extensive experience developing APIs REST/SOAP Services - Excellent working knowledge of PHP 5.6+/OOP - Experience with Laravel 4.2+ or another PHP framework - An understanding of software design patterns and SOLID principles - Strong SQL skills with a mind-set geared towards optimisation - Experience with relational database design and normalisation - Working knowledge of Git - Debugging using xdebug - Basic/intermediate knowledge of JavaScript - Experience with Agile development practice Desirable - Working knowledge of Linux - Frontend experience withHTML/CSS/SASS/JavaScript/jQuery - TDD/Unit testing experience - Experience with testing tools Selenium, JMeter or similar - Experience with NoSQL (redis, elastic, MongoDB) - Basicknowledge of Apache/NGINX - Knowledge of caching systems (memcache, varnish etc) The Team You'll work as part of a growing development team with a diverse cross section of skills and experience. The team operates on agile development practice focused on achieving rapid delivery. If you've worked 'agile' you'll find the workflow an easy fit. Everyone in the development team has a voice and helps to mould the processes we follow. We're committed to continuous improvement in everything we do so your ideas are always heard and encouraged. The team maintains an open atmosphere where we support and help each other to achieve the best result. We like team players with a 'can do' attitude who can bring their unique skills to the table and make the whole greater than the sum of its parts. You'll work hard on developing new features and you'll leave every day feeling you've contributed to a product where each new feature has a profound impact (because it really does). And when work gets a bit too hectic you can blow off steam on our 'Olympic' standard ping pong table. complete with balls, bats, waiter service* and an ever-ready stream of willing competitors. Ultimately, we take pride in being part of an effective development team building something meaningful every day. It's a great place to be.
