JOB PROFILE: Technical Compliance Manager
REPORTS TO: Head of Technical Services Product Safety & Nutrition
GRADE: Grade C
Role Purpose Statement
To develop and enhance Brakes’ compliance to its, and its customers increasingly demanding technical standards, including: nutritional, product risk, product safety, integrity & legal compliance.
Key Accountabilities & Responsibilities:
  • To support the facilitation of customer and third party head office audits, e.g. BRC/Organic/MSC/Freedom Foods
  • To continuously review, and manage implementation of Brakes major customers technical compliance policies and to monitor against Brakes product standards and policies to ensure compliance, recommending output activity to Brakes Technical Leadership Team
  • To maintain a regular review of Brakes product standards and policies in line with changes to legislation and industry issues using insight/input from the product technology team & customer requirements; and to recommend improvements and updates to the Brakes Technical Leadership Team
  • To undertake comprehensive awareness of current or emerging legislative and technical issues, by ‘horizon scanning’ of food and non-food events, and report or make recommendations to Brakes Technical Leadership Team. Regular monitoring of tools such as ‘FERA’s Horizon Scan’, ‘FIIN’, and websites such as EFSA, FSA, FSS, Campden BRI.
  • To manage the central technical team’s Product Safety and Integrity Surveillance Program – encompassing desktop supplier / product audits, and comprehensive product testing – to underpin, verify and monitor compliance to our product standards, and to produce regular compliance reports as support to Brakes Technical Leadership Team
  • To undertake appropriate compliance HACCP / TACCP training for the wider Brakes technical team
  • To support line manager in ensuring timely turn around and accurate responses to any serious or business critical product safety, legislative, regulatory or customer queries
  • To support line manager in the coordination and execution of Central Technical product recalls
  • To support Product Technology team in undertaking supplier audits, in particular in response to investigations related to product safety or integrity issues.
  • To support line manager and technical services team by undertaking appropriate customer support service activities
  • To deputise for line manager in his absence.
Performance Indicators:
  • Regular reports on the output of issues arising from ‘horizon scanning’
  • Completion & reporting of surveillance projects to the set deadline
  • Positive feedback from customers in relation to their policies implemented by Brakes
  • Implementation of any identified improvements to Brakes policy or product standards
  • Proactive achievement of key departmental accountability targets
