The role of the Database Administrator (DBA) is to look after all of the company maintained databases across our entire estate from the dev/test environments, the internal CRM and those connected to public facing websites.

The DBA will be responsible for database administration, managing incidents and service requests, liaising with internal and external teams to get issues resolved and also to collate and contribute to database capacity planning.

The DBA will work closely with the IT development and IT Infrastructure Managers to ensure each database is secure, performant, maintained and up to date, with maximum uptime and the appropriate back-up and disaster recovery solutions in place. Where required, you will make recommendations for future developments.

The ideal person will be technically-minded with exceptional interpersonal skills and natural attention to detail. An excellent communicator, this person will have the ability to question non-technical colleagues about technical issues in order to quickly diagnose the problem and communicate the solution in a timely fashion. Duties and Responsibilities Maintain and update existing databases across Reassured’s internal and external systemsWriting and optimising SQL statementsSupport the IT developers to write better SQL statementsSupport the IT Infrastructure team to size and maintain the development/test/staging environments appropriately.Plan resource requirements from high level specificationsCreating technical specifications and test plansWriting operational documentationProvide regular reports on the state of the company’s databasesWorking closely with other members of staffMentoring Junior DBAsSupport User Acceptance Testing cycles as requiredStay up-to-date with new technologiesSkills and ExperienceEssential Skills

SQL: 3 years+MySQL Administration (MySQL or Percona): 3 years+Optimising SQL: 3 years+Desirable Skills

System Administration (CentOS 5/Red Hat 5/Ubuntu 10) via the CLI.Administering MySQL databases via the CLI.Version control: GitEssential Experience

Managing and testing database backup and restore proceduresMonitoring system performance with a view to capacity planningWriting and maintaining high quality documentationMySQL database replicationKnowledge and understanding of storage enginesWriting optimised SQL codeDesirable Experience
