Job Description
Common Infrared Countermeasures (CIRCM ) is a cornerstone programme within the Advanced Targeting Sector in Leonardo. An exciting and technically challenging opportunity has arisen for a Senior Hardware Engineer to help strengthen the existing team.

Key Responsibility Areas
In this broadband role, you will help develop the product through support of existing designs, via early life production support, to brand new product development.
The support responsibilities will primarily focus on production support and DVT & Qualification activities. You will be responsible for instigating Route Cause and Corrective Action investigations and defining & implementing design change resulting from these investigations. In addition you will provide technical support to the DVT and Qualification programme.
The product development responsibilities include requirement capture, prototyping/risk reduction experiments, schematic capture and PCB Layout (xDx Designer – Mentor Graphics), circuit simulation (LTSpice, SystemVision, Hyperlynx), driving the design review process and collaborating with other engineering functions and manufacturing.
You will also be responsible for devising and implementing all necessary design verification tests and supporting documentation required to allow new designs to transition into production.

Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
  • First or second degree (BSc, BEng, MEng, MSc, PhD, EngD) in Electrical & Electronic Engineering (preferable) or related science (eg Physics) with preferably some specialisation in electronic techniques.
  • Strong analogue & mixed-signal circuit design experience including use of LTSpice.
  • Extensive experience of PCB development tools and process.
  • Experience of DFx (designing for cost, test and manufacturability)
  • Experience in System level and sub-system integration and Debug.
  • A willingness to work within a fast moving and dynamic environment.
  • Good team players with a willingness to share ideas and communicate well within an project team environment’.
  • Interest in developing team leadership and mentoring skills.
  • Electro-Optics experience beneficial.


Intrinsic Factors
This is mainly an office based role using display screen equipment but you will also work in a development lab and occasionally in a production area in a clean room environment. Working to tight deadlines either on a regular or ad hoc basis will be required. Occasional travel within the UK and abroad with overnight stays may be required. The nature of the programmes involving electronics design means that any candidate being considered for the position must be capable of achieving full SC security clearance and in addition the candidate will require access to caveated information such as UK eyes only and ITAR.
