Job Description

The manufacturing and supply chain team are looking for a Test Engineer to independently test, certify & diagnose faults to component level on testable items. To ensure all work is conducted in compliance with required processes, procedures and standards in adherence with the M&SC Way and associated behaviours.

Specific Role:

This specific role is working within the Microelectronics Centre of Excellence (MEG). MEG manufacture numerous complex microelectronic modules and hybrids for internal Leonardo consumption into higher level platforms for both Leonardo's Radar facility in Crewe Toll Edinburgh, where MEG is co-located, and Leonardo's Electronic Warfare facility at Capability Green in Luton. This specific role will require the individual to test and fault find a variety of the microelectronics and hybrids to deliver high quality, cost effective and timely fully functional units to MEG's internal customers as part of their IPT (Integrated Project Team). The role requires the individual to work a rotating 4on4off shift pattern.

Key Responsibility Areas

Typical accountabilities (Key Result Areas)

  • Diagnose and resolve technical / process / product problems, independently, including finding innovative solutions, in accordance with business procedures and defined standards.
  • Organise own workload to ensure time is utilised effectively, under general supervision
  • To proactively interface with TL & other Test Engineers to facilitate progress to completion of work in accordance with required timescales
  • To proactively interface with TL, Engineering and Q/A in the continued improvement of Test Documentation, Processes, Equipment & Products
  • To proactively contribute to continuous improvements activities
  • Liaison with Engineering on the provision of technical solutions for operational issues. Ensuring escalation through TL as appropriate
  • Accountable for working to identify yield improvements and reduce non-value added test activities
  • Support to Maintenance of Special to Type Test Equipment


Manufacturing Systems and software:

  • SAP / Team Centre / ARIS / EMIT / MyTime / Microsoft


Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required

Personal Skills:

  • Good organisational skills / ability to plan & prioritise
  • Demonstrate initiative and flexibility
  • Ability to analyse information & data, interpret and present results.
  • Good problem solving abilities
  • Good communication skills, written and verbal.


Technical Skills:

  • Component Level diagnostics
  • Demonstrable, practical knowledge and application of manufacturing processes including lean principles & techniques, SPC & 6s
  • Understanding of impact of own work on LoB /Site objectives


Education:

  • Proven technical proficiency either through qualification (NVQ level 3/HNC/HND) or recognised apprenticeship or equivalent training & experience


Experience

  • Appropriate experience in the testing and diagnosis of Microelectronics.
