Your Mission

As Security Engineering Technical Lead, you lead a global team of Security Engineers across the enterprise. You possess a very strong understanding of security engineering principles and practices (especially firewalls) related to an online business, applying them pragmatically in order to strike a balance between protecting our business and our customers, while allowing the organisation to simply get on with doing what it does best.

The Security Engineering team has full responsibility for the engineering, management and day to day operations of the security systems that protect the organisation's data and information technology assets. Specifically, the team's primary responsibilities include:

  • Design, implementation, operations and ongoing management of security systems that safeguard data and information assets for the enterprise, eg Legacy and next generation firewalls (NGFW), ensuring solutions and controls are deployed to mitigate internal and external security threats.
  • Providing engineering services to the Cyber Security Team; including proof of concept, design, deployment and maintenance of new technologies, developing research and concepts into operations-ready capability, and ensuring that security tools and functions are properly engineered and supportable.
  • A senior technical expert, you enjoy working hands-on, and championing transformation projects within the department.

    You will work closely with senior technology managers in the formulation and implementation of policies, processes and systems, ensuring all projects and initiatives are consistently delivered to a high level of quality and reliability.

    What you'll do

  • Lead and manage Security Engineering professionals across global locations and time zones including staffing decisions, mentoring, training and development.
  • Lead transformation projects on Firewall centralised management, standardisation, automation and operations; becoming a hands-on leader in a new, cohesive, Firewall operations and management capability
  • Ownership of Security Engineering projects and solutions, including design, implementation, and on-going operations, eg Legacy and next generation firewalls (NGFW), intrusion detection/prevention systems (IDS/IPS), web application firewalls (WAF) and endpoint security solutions
  • Lead the Security Engineering response for Production Incident and Problem investigations
  • Maintain appropriate security measures to guard against unauthorised access to electronically stored and/or transmitted information and reasonably protect against anticipated threats and vulnerabilities
  • Research new security related technologies and advancement, and identify opportunities for continual improvement, providing recommendations for ongoing improvements to the organisation.
  • Work collaboratively on the design, testing, implementation, and maintenance of security policies, standards, and guidelines
  • Conduct risk analyses and assessments and ensure solutions are in place to mitigate unacceptable risks
  • Responsible for the development, implementation and collection of metrics for security processes to ensure programme adherence
  • Create reports and briefings, as required, for senior management
  • What you'll bring

  • Technical experience within network security
  • Experience as a technical team lead with demonstratable experience managing priorities. Ideally managing team members in different time zones
  • Extensive experience with, and in-depth understanding of, Legacy and Next Generation Firewall platforms, their management and operations, e,g, ACLs, packet inspection, traffic filtering, NAT/PAT, URL filtering, malware recognition, intrusion detection and prevention; VPN technology (IPSec, SSL, and clientless VPNs, remote access, AAA, certificates)
  • Extensive experience with and in-depth understanding of security technologies, specifically IDS/IPS, WAF, VPNs, netflow collection and analysis, and automation
  • Detailed understanding of TCP/IP, IP communication, networking and routing principles (OSPF, EIGRP, BGP), and OS concepts and technologies
  • Familiarity with industry security configuration standards, such as NIST and CIS
