Do you think your parents or grandparents would know what the Internet of Things is? Unless they're coding in Xamarin on the way to the bingo, probably not. But do you think they could benefit from connected devices? Putting the heating on while they're on the way home from the bingo on a blustery night? Absolutely they could. And they're not the only ones. Which is why you don't need me to tell you that the IoT is exploding. So why that intro? Well, I wanted to mention your family so you'd have an emotional response to this job advert. Don't look at me like that - everyone does it. I mentioned a job advert. There's an opportunity for a mobile apps developer in the IoT universe. It's with a big (10s of 1,000s of staff) company, who specialise in energy management products. Recently, they've focused on creating connected products. The products will be the metaphorical motorcars of the industry, while everyone else is still riding horses. Ask me - I have details. That's where you come in. They need apps for the users. Exciting apps. Apps your parents and grandparents are able to use (I did it again - I'm shameless). Because this is a new-ish function, it's within a brand new team. Because of that, there's a lot of flexibility in the way you'll work. There's no frame of reference yet. That means it's not so them telling you what to do. It's them telling you what needs doing. Get on with it, your own way. Generally, it'll be: - Hands on coding as part of a scrum team (Android, iOS or Xamarin) - defining features in BDD language and ensure this is translated into automated test cases wherever possible - Using tools like TeamCity, HockeyApp and TestFlight - Coach and mentor junior colleagues - And if you're UX inclined, you can work with product managers and graphic designers to deliver world-class experiences Just because it's an informal set-up. that's not to say there won't be support - you'll be given whatever help you need. I mentioned it was a massive company. It is. So there's huge scope for personal and career development. It means major players, experts in the industry, you can learn from. You can travel, pick up skills in entirely new areas - whatever you want. On your project alone there's the integration of: - Electronics - Firmware - cloud technology - Mobile app development platforms - Engineering tools Pick up new skills in any and all of those. Imagine how that'll look on your résumé. Also, because it's a sizeable organisation, there are resources to offer the salary you deserve, plus benefits like pension and share save schemes. I'll talk to you about these in more detail if you like. Let's finish on a bit about you. You're a mobile app developer. Been developing for a while now. You've got a background with Android and iOS development. C# and Xamarin. You've been involved in web services connectivity in JSON and XML. You know about CSS, HTML5 and JavaScript frameworks like JQuery and Angular. Or at least, you have some mixture of the above. But most importantly, you want to use your skills to be involved in something bigger, more important, than what you're doing now. Something like the IoT. Sound like you? If you have questions, ring me. I'm on ************* If you're interested, send your CV to *********************************. You can still ask questions. It's what your relatives would want.
