A member of the Engineering Department/Function providing an engineering service for the company in either an individual departmental function or as part of a team, often leading the team.
Responsible for the Engineering of a specific portion of a project. Project responsibilities; productivity, technical output, resource control, progress, product standardisation, health and safety and compliance

  • Produce, monitor and/or check that technically compliant and cost effective design documentation; drawings, specifications, schedules, calculations, manuals, enquiry specifications etc. meet project requirements and company operating procedures and statutory obligations.
  • Ensure that the design, manufacture and testing of Fluids equipment is carried out to the required standards, within budget and agreed time scales.
  • Work with the lead engineer as the technical focus for a specific portion of a project ensuring a successful and commercially viable contract execution. This would include monitoring and reporting budgets, progress and change management.
  • Responsible for the supervision of up to four employees on a project basis, staff and sub-contract – no direct reports
  • Ensure that team members comply with the company operating procedures and statutory obligations. Participate in project Design & Safety Reviews, Risk Assessments etc.
  • Report to Lead Engineer and/or Engineering Manager on all matters relating to the project.
  • Co-ordination, liaise and monitor Third Party design output to ensure project and statutory requirements are met.
  • Provide assistance to other disciplines within the Project team
  • Assist in a technical capacity with supplier negotiations
  • Participate in customer meetings and training, both on site and in the office
  • Participate in equipment commissioning activities at clients site
  • Provide technical support to ensure that equipment is manufactured, tested, installed and commissioned in accordance with the design and operational requirements.
  • Develop, maintain and cultivate relationships with Clients, Suppliers, Sub Contractors to ensure successful execution of the project, future business.
  • Assist in the preparation of Fluids technical specifications and engineering manhour and/or merchant account budgets for the pre-project bids ensuring budgets are at a suitable level to obtain new business whilst still being sufficient to allow successful project execution.
  • Assist the Sales Dept in a technical capacity with customer negotiations, both in the office and at client’s premises.



  • Design experience and knowledge of the relevant technology area (Metals industry)
  • Knowledge of media system design, including hydraulics, oil & grease lubrication, compressed air, high and low pressure water, roll coolant – emulsion and kerosene
  • Experience of function within large projects including installation and start-up and commissioning
  • Ability to be able to communicate on both Technical and non-technical issues
  • Working knowledge of Health and Safety legislation and requirements
  • Must be self-motivated and proficient in time management
  • Ability to multi-task and set priorities for self and others
  • IT literate with all department and business system tools, especially AutoCad

  • Understanding of Project Management, Planning, Procurement, Sales and R&D disciplines
  • Experienced in managing budgets
  • Keep pace with current developments and in particular those of our competitors

  • Experience of project engineering and the project lifecycle from sales through to installation/commissioning from a specific disciplined engineering view.
  • Experience of team management during project execution, both office based and site based.
  • Must be able to solve problems quickly and positively. Take an active part in the decision making of the engineering team.

  • Exposure to different cultures from around the world leading to sensitivity towards those differing cultures.


  • Minimum HNC in a relevant Engineering subject. Health & Safety training or equivalent in Substantial experience of the metals industry and large Project execution.


  • Prepared to travel the world, sometimes at short notice, and be available outside normal working hours.
