We're looking for an Engine Development Technician to join our client in Essex to work on both new and heritage engines development. You'll need to come from an engine background, and have knowledge of running engines in test cells. DEVELOPMENT TECHNICIAN Direct Line Report: ENGINEERING MANAGER Job Purpose: The Development Technician will work as part of the engineering team conducting development and test activities for both the VP185 and Heritage range of engines produced at the Colchester site. Key Tasks & Responsibilities 1. Operate in compliance with the Company departmental procedures. 2. Provide Support to Design & Development Engineers in preparing VP185 engine components for development and testing of prototype systems for evaluation. 3. Maintain adequate records of work performed on projects, test rigs, instrumentation and other engineering activities. 4. Ensure development test "procedures & product specifications" are maintained and enhanced. 5. Ensure that transducers, sensors and associated instrumentation is regularly calibrated to international standards as needed. 6. Conduct "verification & validation" testing of prototype products to confirm compliance against the required specifications. 7. The technician will "analyse data & solve complex system problems" as they relate to hardware selection, engine performance, fuel consumption, emissions, and base engine calibration and development. 8. Support failure analysis and "root cause investigation" using 8D methodology. 9. Ensure that development test results are compiled in the form of "Engineering Reports" in a timely manner. 10. Support "FAT & Classification" society testing and compliance assessments as well as maintain test/technical files. 1 Company Specific Tasks & Responsibilities 1. Ability to uphold the highest ethical standards, high integrity. Experience & Skills What is required for the role Essential 1. Base engine testing, data analysis testing & reporting. 2. Data acquisition experience collecting and processing data. 3. Calibration of transducers, sensor and associated instrumentation. 4. Technical report writing skills and data analysis. Desirable 1. Testing in accordance with engine emissions control & regulations. 2. Noise & vibration measurement, analysis & reporting. 3. EMC susceptibility (IEC 60533, 69945) 4. Experience with analysis tools (Ansys, MatLab or similar) General (non-role specific) Essential: Fluency in English Desirable: Additional languages Specific Knowledge (Fits to exact duties & tasks) 1. Familiar with working in a development laboratory environment and conducting tests and analysis. (ideally engine testing). Qualifications (can be specific to role, or indication of level of education generally) 1. Engineering qualification (BTEC Level 3 or 4 diploma) 2. Experience in related industry manufacturing heavy/complex equipment. Personal Profile (personality traits that would assist in success in the role) 1.
