PURPOSE OF ROLE To project manage short and medium term product development projects to facilitate the introduction of products to new customers, as well as support the demands of existing customers and other markets. MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Supervise and motivate the laboratory team, ensuring that work is prioritised correctly and any issues are resolved. Ensure that training and capability records are relevant and current to facilitate the safe operation of personnel and equipment within the department. Undertake practical laboratory work relating to design and development of new products and modification of current products and technologies. Liaising with production to conduct laboratory supervision of trial batches. Work with technical sales team and other technical departments during product development to provide progress reports, support, and cost information. Entry of new and revision of existing formulations, and entry of new raw materials. To represent the department at technical meetings as and when required both on and off site Preparation and review of formal reports for both internal and external use. Responsible for the upkeep of laboratory equipment, and referring for maintenance as required. Keep up to date with the latest raw material supplier portfolios to ensure optimisation in the product development process. KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE AND BEHAVIOURS REQUIRED Ability to lead and motivate people Capable of working under pressure to strict deadlines whilst adhering to quality requirements. Good spoken and written communication skills An ability to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders within the Company Report Writing Strong understanding of paint formulation, including basic chemistry and reaction / interaction between raw materials RELEVANT TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE Educated up to degree level in Chemistry / HNC or equivalent IOSH
