Working Week - 39 hours per week, Mon to Thurs 8am - 5pm & Fri 8am - 4pm.

Weekly Wage - The salary will be £192.30 per week (£10,000 per annum)

Expected Apprenticeship Duration - 42 - 48 months

Brief Overview

You will assist with the electrical infrastructure maintenance of Main Operations Centre (MOC) and fixed Satellite Ground Station (SGS) in accordance with issued maintenance work orders and the appropriate maintenance schedules.

Full Vacancy Description

You will be helped to build relationships with peers, allowing you to achieve your professional development objectives.

Your duties will include the following:

  • Assist with the electrical infrastructure maintenance tasks of the MOC and SGS including antenna main power and associated equipment.

Assist with Scheduled and Unscheduled Maintenance tasks.
Assist with the investigation and monitoring of faults on any electrical systems within the Facilities Management (FM) responsibility and control.
Assist with Installation / Modification work on the FM Electrical Infrastructure.
Carry out Risk Assessments at the point of work in support of operational and maintenance risks and routine administration.
Be conversant and compliant with Statutory Health & Safety procedures.
Be conversant and compliant with site specific H & S, Fire and Security procedures.
Become proficient in the application and use of a wide range of equipment used within the Maintenance and Support environment.
Any other tasks within your skill sets as detailed by the FM Site Manager or their representative.

  • Practical hands on ability.

A good level of IT capability.
The ability to accept instruction and work to deadlines.
Willingness to develop the role into a technical career.

Desired personal qualities

We are looking for somebody who is enthusiastic, reliable, determined and hardworking, self-motivated and who is happy to constantly learn and develop new skills with an interest in electrical engineering.

Desired qualifications

Four GCSEs or acceptable equivalent as follows:

  • Maths Grade B/6 or above

English and a Science subject Grade A-C/4 or above
An additional GCSE Grade A – C/4 or above

You will also need to complete an on-line initial assessment, which will help us guide you to the most appropriate programme to meet your needs.

Things to consider

It is essential that you are able to travel daily to MOC Hawthorn, Corsham, Wiltshire to arrive on time for work.

You will be expected to travel to a local college on day release. Serco will cover costs in accordance with Company guidelines.

You must have lived in the UK for the last 5 years and have a UK passport, this is to gain the appropriate security clearance.

Working Week - 39hrs, Mon-Thur 8am–5pm & Fri 8am–4pm with 1hr unpaid for lunch

You will be required to undergo security checks, which includes a check of criminal records. You must be able to meet the minimum requirements to hold a UK Government Security Clearance.
