Job Summary

We’re looking for a commercially minded Project Quantity Surveyor to join our multi-disciplinary team in Scotland. Playing a key role within the HMNB Clyde project team you’ll be experienced in the successful delivery of NEC3 contracts and working within the defence sector. This position will be predominantly site based, with visits to our Edinburgh office on a routine basis.

Your Role

Based at HMNB Clyde you’ll be involved in a major infrastructure and systems replacement / upgrade project for the MOD, the anticipated project completion is early 2021.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Monitoring and managing the project works using the NEC3 suite of documents, including all EWN, CE, etc.
  • Working collaboratively with the wider WYG team in the delivery of this project, building effective working relationships with the client enabling expansion of the team at HMNB Clyde
  • Using Primavera Schedule & Risk to carry out QSRA and QCRA analysis and to interrogate the contractors programme and to monitor record his progress
  • Risk Profiling
  • Using Excel, MS Project and Word software to produce reporting and tracking documents.
  • Actively engage with the key stakeholders and site maintenance provider.
  • Attending at all Works Contractor’s meetings, and chairing these where necessary.
  • Attending and chairing (where necessary) all project meetings and producing accurate minutes of those, within 2 days of the meeting.
  • Principal liaison with the DIO Cost Consultant, Contractor and all associated stakeholders.
  • Monitoring and reviewing the Contractors spend profile and compliance with the contracted requirements and produce weekly and monthly reports for onward transmission to the DIO PM.
  • Assisting the WYG PM in the management and implementation of the Risk Register.
  • Monitoring, recording and reporting EVM across the projects.
  • On-going cost analysis of works
  • Analysing completed work and assessing payment applications
  • Allocation of forthcoming work to contractors / sub-contractors
  • Site assessments and projections for future work
  • Preparing tender and contract documents, including bills of quantities with the architect and/or the client;
  • Performing risk, value management and cost control;
  • Identifying, analysing and developing responses to commercial risks;
  • Preparing and analysing costings for tenders and producing tender reports;
  • Providing advice on contractual claims;
  • Analysing outcomes and writing detailed progress reports;
  • Maintaining awareness of the different building contracts in current use;
  • Understanding the implications of health and safety regulations.
  • Assisting in establishing the client's requirements and undertaking feasibility studies;
  • Advising on a procurement strategy;

About You

You’ll be degree qualified (or equivalent), MRICS with a minimum of 10 years’ experience working within a consultancy environment.

It is essential that you’re:

  • Experienced in the successful delivery of infrastructure projects using NEC3, specifically within the defence sector.
  • Proficient in the use of specialised scheduling software such as Primavera Scheduling & Risk and MS Project
  • A team player and a keen, progressive, versatile individual who can adopt a flexible approach
  • An excellent verbal and written communicator, able to build strong relationships at all levels
  • Extensively experienced in the construction industry
