Role Overview:

JD Sports Fashion PLC, Edinburgh House, Hollinsbrook Way, Pilsworth, Bury, BL9 8RR

Great opportunity to join a small, focused team that are delivering quality business intelligence solutions to a fast moving fashion business. You will have the chance to play an important part in the ongoing development of BI at JD Sports.

Key Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with the data integration team, the wider BI team and key business users on requirement development, design and build of data integration solutions
  • Work with large and complex data sets that requires data analysis and problem solving expertise to define the correct functional and non-functional requirements that the business requires
  • Implement logic to extract, transform and load (ETL) data across the various source systems in operation at JD.
  • Optimise data integration jobs and processes to provide optimal performance
  • Peer review developers work to ensure that all the work is consistent with the methodologies in place at JD
  • Validate all work by thorough unit testing and participate in any system and user testing as required
  • Provide accurate and timely management of work activity
  • Establish an open relationship with the business users, teammates and other members of JD Sports
  • Raise opportunities, enhancements and process improvements across the data integration real estate
  • Update job knowledge by tracking new concepts in the DI (and wider BI) industry

Skills/Experience/Knowledge needed:

  • Experience of working on one or more BI projects in a data integration role
  • Strong experience of one or more data integration tools (Talend, Oracle ODI/OWB, Informatica)
  • Experience of designing, documenting and building data integration jobs
  • In depth knowledge of relational databases and ability to utilise SQL to query and manipulate data structures
  • Understanding of data warehousing methodologies (especially Kimball)
  • Good communication skills with the ability to influence and guide work colleagues and business users
  • Ability to work and perform under pressure and meet challenging deadlines

Skills and behaviours:

The Data Integration Developer must have:

  • Strong data integration tools exposure - ideally using Talend (but would consider other DI tools (e.g. Oracle ODI/OWB, Informatica, etc). At least 1 year of development experience that covers all aspects of data integration, this includes:
  • End to end integration mappings
  • Debugging
  • Documentation
Detailed knowledge of relational database technology (2 years or more). Preferably Oracle 10g onwards
  • Thorough understanding of manipulation of data and coding - PL/SQL or similar
Confidence to help create technical design specifications (based on business requirements)
  • Understand user requirements
  • Engage with colleagues to design appropriate solutions
Strong data analysis skills.Excellent oral and written communication skills

In addition, knowledge of:

  • Linux based operating systems
  • BI tools (OBIEE)
  • New /emerging concepts relating to the BI space (Big Data, data science, advanced visualisation)
