The Role Enable the effective use of data by developing platforms, data assets and products, as well as the deliver of insight and analytics. What you'll be doing as a Data Engineer - Develop, operate, support and continually optimise a common data analytical platform that can support rapid discovery and deployment of data products and enables a community analysts and data scientists to deliver insight and build analytical models. - Deliver or support clear and actionable insight through advanced analysis and interpretation of multiple complex data sets, especially for insight and analytics on customer experience. - To foster and cultivate an Agile culture so that it will enable the smooth and rapid transitioning of prototype data products into robust product assets. - Experience in DevOps processes, solutions and tools, such as code management, continuous integration and test-driven development. - Establish, capture, maintain and continually improve analytics best practices, knowledge and standards. - Demonstrate and lead the "art of the possible" showcasing new capabilities and driving innovation within immediate business areas, wider data community in DLG and identify other capable stakeholders. - Using commercial awareness, influence and communicate across multiple business areas and stakeholders to promote new opportunities for data to be leveraged effectively. - Evangelise the use of data and methods; challenging existing paradigms in a constructive manner that demonstrate and promote the value of a mature data and analytics capability. - Maintain awareness of the wider data and analytics industry, in particular looking for technical or other opportunities that can make the use of data more effective (such as driving down the long-term costs, time to value realisation or simplify activity for others to get value out data). - Contribute and input into strategic data road-maps. Skills and Qualities you'll need - Consulting: working in dynamic environments, problem solving for commercial challenges. - Advanced Data Modelling and Analysis: Able to query, prepare and analyse data, using both basic statistical and advanced statistical measures and methods. Familiarity with data modelling (e.g. Star Schema, Kimball etc) is ideal. - Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases. - Programming & Advanced Computing: Skilled at object oriented or functional programming. Ideally extensive experience in SAS, but also experience in other languages, such as Python, Java, R, Scala, Spark. Familiar with linux/unix shell scripting and version control. - Data Visualisation: Ideally Qliksense, but experience in Tableau and open source tools, such as D3, would be beneficial. - Maths & Statistics: Skilled at modelling complex business problems and making predictions about future events. Capable of modelling and creating solutions for business challenges using linear algebra, calculus, frequentist and/or bayesian statistics. - Maching Learning: Able to build models - utilising distributed computing where appropriate - and work with engineers to deploy them in new or existing software applications.
