The Disability Resource Centre (DRC), one of the leading disability organisations operating in Birmingham, Solihull and the wider West Midlands, is seeking a Treasurer to join their board. The role The Treasurer will oversee the financial matters of the charity and its subsidiaries in line with good practice and in accordance with the governing document and legal requirements, and report to the Board of Trustees at regular intervals about the financial health of the organisation. The Treasurer will ensure that effective financial measures, controls and procedures are put in place, and are appropriate for the charity and its subsidiaries. In addition to the general Treasurer responsibilities, the organisation have exciting new projects to develop social enterprises and the appointed person will be able to be part of these from the very beginning of their development. Person description The ideal candidate should have the following skills, attitudes and experience: Essential: - A strong empathy with our mission to empower disabled people and those with long term health conditions - Proven financial management qualifications, skills, and expertise - An interest in financial management in the not-for personal-profit sector - Demonstrate an in-depth understanding of our work and ambitions Desirable: - A background in social enterprises would be an advantage What impact the opportunity will have Providing your sound financial management to the organisation will enable us to continue carrying out our mission of empowering disabled people and those with long term health conditions. You will also help us to develop and increase our services through social enterprising projects, which will allow us to provide further support to our beneficiaries and hopefully extend our services to those that need them. Overall, the organisation is going through a lot of growth and development and the role will definitely have a commercially focused impact on the plans. What's in it for the volunteer? This role will enable you to learn a great deal about the world of disability, you will work alongside a diverse workforce and will have a unique experience of working in user led organisation. Time commitment Either in or out of office hours. Once a month, up to 6 board meetings and up to 6 sub group meetings per year dependent on remit. One AGM. 7 meetings in total.
