We have an exciting opportunity for a Legal Counsel to support the UK General Insurance Personal Lines Products and Propositions team within the UK Insurance Legal Team based in Norwich. The role will require the provision of legal advice in relation to General Insurance personal lines products, propositions, customer journeys and associated documentation and contracts. Your responsibilities will include supporting development of new Aviva general insurance products; advising on product-related issues for Aviva Insurance, partners, brokers and aggregators; negotiating and advising on third party contracts, assisting the business with migration issues for insurance business transferring from other providers to Aviva products. The areas of law relevant to the role where existing knowledge and experioence would be particularly beneficial for the successful candidate include insurance and contract law, FCA Regulation/Handbook requirements and general insurance regulatory framework, CAP and marketing codes, consumer credit law and regulation and data protection. The role will involve working closely with senior colleagues within the Aviva business, Risk and Governance functions and the wider Aviva Legal function and with partners/brokers/third parties as required. Key Outputs: - Provide a high quality, timely, commercially focused legal service. - Legal risk reports summarising material legal risk issues for own area of responsibility. - To actively manage the instruction of external lawyers in accordance with the Supplier Protocol, with a view to minimizing expenditure on external suppliers. - Working collaboratively with other lawyers (across the function where appropriate), providing leadership and guidance to more junior members of staff. - To ensure appropriate liaison and cooperation with business areas to promote risk management reporting, control and awareness initiatives within those business units, in order to provide reasonable assurance that those business areas are controlling legal risk in accordance with the Standard. - Specific and significant responsibilities are discharged at the direction of Line Manager. - Creates and maintains a personal development plan* which is based on core role requirements and to demonstrate evidence of continuing professional development at mid-year and year -end. Qualifications: - A solicitor, barrister or legal executive. Experience: - Newly/recently qualified solicitor/barrister or an experienced legal executive. - Some relevant experience of dealing with senior colleagues. - Ability to successfully contribute to projects/negotiations and relationships with third parties and external advisers. - Working knowledge of the regulatory environment relevant to own area of responsibility. Skills: - Good technical knowledge of the areas of law relevant to role will be an advantage. - Good oral and written communication and problem solving skills (the latter applied in the context of significant commercial transactions and the management and identification of legal risk). - Understanding the needs of our customers.
