Graduate Chemical Engineer / Risk Management Consultant Our Client is looking for a Graduate Chemical Engineer to work from their office in Edinburgh in a full time permanent post as a Graduate Chemical Engineer / Risk Management Consultant . This role will offer you with a wide variety of experience in all Engineering Sectors: High/Major Hazard Industries, Nuclear Generation, Renewable Energy, Oil and Gas, Chemical and Defence industries. You will be a Graduate Engineer with a Chemical Degree, (other disciplines will be considered) and experience within one of the industries listed above will be useful but not necessary as you will be trained. You will be looking to start as soon as possible, however if you are about to graduate please state your date of graduation on your application. Our Client: Our client is an established, independent and specialist risk management consulting and training company. They help their clients to manage health, safety, security, environmental (HSSE) and business risk in sectors where the impact of loss is high. Role Description: We are seeking a highly motivated and dynamic Graduate Chemical Engineer (or similar) to work effectively and collaboratively within our clients office in Edinburgh (South Queensferry) office. You will support a range of existing and new projects within, but not limited to, nuclear generation, renewable energy, oil and gas, chemical and defence industries. As part of the role you will gain experience supporting senior colleagues on project tasks and will develop a good understanding of the technical, engineering and operational issues fundamental to safety and risk management within a variety of industries. Ongoing Training: At the same time as gaining practical experience, our client will provide a structured training programme that will lead to recognised qualifications. Our Client provides a university postgraduate education programme, delivered in partnership with Liverpool John Moores University. As part of the job you will be enrolled on the Postgraduate Diploma (PgDip) in Risk and Safety Management, with the opportunity to progress to Master's Degree (MSc) level. This will be completed via Distance Learning. Duties and Responsibilities: * Providing technical safety support to senior colleagues and clients, working in areas such as; o Hazard identification (HAZID, HAZOP, Bowtie) workshops; o Consequence modelling (gas dispersion, heat radiation, jet fire / explosion modelling) using industry standard software and techniques; o Layers of Protection Analysis (LOPA) / Safety Integrity Level (SIL) determination / verification; o Quantified Risk Assessment (QRA); o Dangerous Substances and Explosive Atmospheres Regulations (DSEAR) risk assessments and Hazardous Area Classification; o Input to formal technical reports, HSE Cases and other project deliverables on time and to budget. * Maintaining up-to-date knowledge of standards, methods, data and use of appropriate software. Requirements: Qualifications and experience; o Chemical Engineering (or similar) degree; o Highly computer literate; awareness of industry standard software packages would be advantageous; o Awareness of some of the technical safety studies listed above is desirable, as is the ability to interpret and understand Piping & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&IDs), Process Flow Diagrams (PFD's) and the supporting technical reports / data sheets, however training will be provided. Personal qualities: o Able to work as part of a team, as well as to work independently where needed; o Clear communication skills are essential, both verbal and written, and strong organisational skills and attention to detail both are critical in the work that we do. Strong analytical and logical skills are essential; o Able to travel within UK and abroad, often at short notice; o This opportunity has high visibility and profile so we require an enthusiastic, confident individual who we would be proud to represent Risktec in front of our clients; o Due to the nature of the work, the candidates must have a suitable background that will allow them to achieve UK security clearance (please note that this is very difficult to achieve within the timescales for non UK nationals and you will subject to a screening process prior to interview to ensure that you meet the security clearance criteria).
