The Engineering Manager will ensure the delivery of an effective technical service to support the manufacturing operations in achieving business objectives and targets. The Botcherby factory located in Carlisle (UK) is one of the largest can plants in Europe, and has 5 major production lines producing in excess of 2.2 billion cans per year. In addition there are 3 ends manufacturing modules, producing more than 6 billion ends per year. For the purposes of longer term succession planning they are seeking to appoint an Engineering Manager for the Ends Department, reporting directly to the Manufacturing Manager - Ends. The Ends Department consists of 3 Ends manufacturing modules, manufacturing 200 & 202 diameter ends for the beverage industry. Please feel free to visit their website for further information: *******************************-crown Detailed Job Description The successful candidate will be an integral part of the Ends Manufacturing Team and the Key Accountabilities will be : - Primary responsibility for the training and efficient deployment of the engineering maintenance team to ensure the effective maintenance and development of the department. - To ensure the Health & Safety of departmental personnel to meet all statutory and company safety requirements including control of contractors. - Analysis of machine breakdowns and initiation of corrective actions. - In liaison with the Ends management team scheduling and managing PM&R, annual overhauls and maintenance for production and ancillary equipment. - To work closely with the production and quality teams to promote a high level of co-operation and communication within the manufacturing and quality teams, ensuring that effective support is provided to reflect plant production priorities. - Ability to set and control annual maintenance budgets. - Have sufficient drive to motivate and move the department forward, to achieve challenging business objectives. Candidate's Profile The successful candidate should have: - At least HNC level qualifications in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering - A minimum of 5 years managing engineering/maintenance activities in a high speed manufacturing environment - Project management, planning, problem solving, communication, inter-personal and time-management skills - Leadership skills, enthusiasm, pride and a 'can-do' attitude - A safety mind-set - Strong team leadership skills - Knowledge of continuous improvement methodologies - The drive and ability to progress to Manufacturing Manager level within the next 2 to 3 years.
