Java Application Developer - Contract (3 months with a good chance of getting extended) You'll be based in the Product Group developing Java based applications and user interfaces running on the company's connected set top box platform. The team is also responsible for the development of Android and iOS multiscreen applications and platforms. This position is a challenging role with varied projects that encompass all aspects of the user experience and cross team working. Java Developer - KEY RESPONSIBILITIES - Agreeing designs for solutions with the team ahead of implementation. - Proposing technical implantations, solving problems and creative contribution. - Development and implementation of customer user interface requirements. - Development and implementation of applications connecting set top boxes to external services. - Improving the core codebase in terms of reusability, testability and componentisation. - Working to the company's standards. Java Developer - KNOWLEDGE, QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE Java Developer - ESSENTIAL: - A strong knowledge of object-oriented development (OOD) on core Java (J2SE) with commercial experience and demonstrable skills. - Over 3 year's solid experience working with the Java language. - Solid understanding of a development toolkit and its application into the development life-cycle, including build tools, version control systems (Subversion, Git), test tools, unit testing (JUnit) and continuous integration. - Experience of working on legacy systems / old codebases. Java Developer - DESIRABLE: - Experience of networked applications (TCP/IP, HTTP, HTTPS, web services). - Experience of developing Android applications. - Experience of developing mobile or embedded applications, on the Java ME and/or Java Embedded platforms. - Experience of iOS development. - Experience of event loop based GUI applications. - Knowledge of C and/or C++. - Development using Ubuntu Linux.
