This role is part of the Aviva Finance Operations (AFO) team: a highly effective and agile team managing resources and providing service excellence to the rest of Aviva’s Finance function. This team, under the leadership of our global process owners, will be responsible for our core global Finance operational and reporting production processes.

Within AFO, we have a dedicated team supporting the group’s reinsurance market finance team, responsible for all financial reporting relating to Aviva International Insurance Limited (AII) and Aviva Re.

AII is a substantial captive insurer, with over £50bn of assets, writing both Life and GI business, and plays a pivotal role in the success of Aviva, supporting the business to achieve targeted financial returns and maintaining the confidence of our shareholders and regulators.

Our strategy is to drive commercial value, deliver excellence in capital and solvency management, drive operational excellence and operate as one outstanding team. Aviva Re is Aviva’s offshore captive reinsurance vehicle, which provides further targeted opportunities around capital and solvency management, as well as running off historic liabilities.

The Person

We’re looking for a qualified accountant with demonstrable post-qualified experience, ideally gained within a large insurance company environment. You will have a strong mix of relationship management and technical accounting skills (across both IFRS and Solvency II), and a good understanding of both life and non-life insurance products and markets.

You will have a proven record of people management skills, of operating at a senior/executive management level and of being able to influence other stakeholders. You will have demonstrable experience of delivery that shows a focus on: quality, insight, timeliness, and a robust control ethic.

This is hugely varied role, and while you will need to be comfortable with dealing with a broad spectrum of responsibilities and tasks, it will provide the successful candidate with a diverse range of development opportunities and a strong position to progress their career within Aviva.

Duties & Responsibilities

The primary purpose of the role will be in relation to the final delivery of financial information to support decision making and legal entity statutory/regulatory reporting requirements in respect of AII and Aviva Re.

You’ll be working in a small specialist team within AFO supporting the Market Finance teams of those business units. As the Head of Finance, and therefore key contact within the team this includes, but is not limited to, responsibility for the day-to-day delivery of all outputs into those Market Finance teams, such as the:

production of regular IFRS reporting, including annual IFRS statutory accountsproduction of Pillar 3 QRT reporting, and the preparation of the annual SFCR and RSRproduction of data to support planning and forecasting processes, liquidity monitoring and cost managementpreparation of regular CFO packs to support Board reportingproduction of ad hoc and other regular information to support various Group and legal entity reporting requirementsAdditionally, you will be responsible for ensuring smooth hand-offs and interactions across teams, the timely and accurate resolution of queries, the maintenance of a robust control environment, and a continual focus on process improvement.

Skills & Experience required


Degree level or equivalent.Qualified Accountant with relevant post qualification experience.Skills/Knowledge:

Overall mix of relationship management skills and actuarial skills including:
