Senior Technician - Computing Salary from £32,475

Fixed-term, 37 hours per week

The Role

As a Computing Technician working within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing (SEC), you will provide practical and operational support in the School of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, but potentially across any area of the Faculty. You’ll support learning, research and teaching activities working closely with both staff and students. Your focus will be within engineering, contributing to the learning experience of the students by providing expert second and third line support on IT issues. You will contribute to maintaining, designing and managing the faculties’ computing laboratories, ensuring that IT equipment is running appropriate operating systems ensuring maximum availability. You will support a number of specialist computing laboratories, including software deployment. You will ensure the laboratories and the facilities within them are maintained in good order in accordance with health and safety legislation and the manufacturers’ maintenance instructions.

The Person

You will be a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual, ready to contribute to the day to day operation and maintenance of the faculty’s laboratories and to work with students, academics and clients. You have a demonstrable track record in the field of computing with a working knowledge of computing software, including windows and linux desktop environments, embedded systems, networking, system integration and expertise in scripting languages, Labview and CAD/Modelling.  You will be qualified to minimum of ‘A’ level or equivalent, which must include GSCE Maths and English (min. Grade C).  You will be familiar with current laboratory practices and have served a relevant recognised indentured/modern apprenticeship.

Providing excellent resources to more than 8000 students, the Faculty offers a vast range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, internationally acclaimed research and services to industry.
