Salary from £32,475

The Role

As a Structures Technician working within the Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing (SEC), you will provide practical and operational support in the Structures Laboratory, but potentially across any area of the Faculty. You’ll support learning, research and teaching activities working closely with both staff and students. Your focus will be on our Structures Laboratory, contributing to the learning experience of the students by providing guidance on the use of resources and promoting an excellent understanding of soils testing and construction activities. You will organise technical operations including assisting students with projects and managing a range of specialist equipment. You will ensure the laboratories and the facilities within them are maintained in good order in accordance with health and safety legislation and the manufacturers’ maintenance instructions.

The Person

You will be a self-motivated, enthusiastic individual, ready to contribute to the day to day operation and maintenance of the faculty’s laboratories and to work with students, academics and clients. You have a demonstrable track record in the field of Structures / Civil Engineering with a working knowledge of material testing with electronic data collection. You will be qualified to an appropriate HNC/HND or an equivalent City & Guilds. You will be familiar with current laboratory practices and have served a relevant recognised indentured/modern apprenticeship.

The Faculty of Science, Engineering and Computing was created in 2011 to bring together teaching and research expertise across the science, engineering and computing disciplines. Providing excellent resources to more than 8000 students, the Faculty offers a vast range of undergraduate and postgraduate courses, internationally acclaimed research and services to industry.
