Position: Lettings Officer 
Location: Milton Park, Didcot 
Job Type: Full Time, two-year fixed term contract 
Hours: 37 hours per week 
Salary: £28,119 per annum

About the role: 

They are now recruiting for a Lettings Officer who will play a key role in meeting these aims, and providing an efficient and effective housing service. The aim of the Housing Needs team is to ensure people in housing need have access to the housing and support necessary to meet their needs. 


- Offer advice and assistance on matters relating to the councils housing register and choice based lettings scheme 
- Undertake reviews of decisions to exclude applications to the housing register 
- Nominate successful applicants to Registered Providers in accordance with the councils` housing allocations policy and home choice agreement 
- Monitor nomination agreements and service level agreements with accommodation providers 
- Advise Officers on the interpretation of the Housing Allocations Policy. 
- Responsibility for liaising with the police over public safety issues concerning re-housing dangerous offenders and sex offenders 
- Liaise with statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure appropriate support packages are in place for nominated applicants 
- Operate the council`s allocations scheme and nominations to housing providers 
- Arrange emergency hotel placements for homeless households 
- Provide a tenancy management service for council-owned temporary accommodation 
- Be responsible for carrying out tenancy management in accordance with council procedures 
- A responsibility to acquire and maintain knowledge of health and safety legislation and council policies in relation to temporary accommodation 
- Liaise with statutory and voluntary agencies to ensure appropriate support packages are in place for their customers in temporary accommodation. 
- Maintain accurate computer records for all housing applicants and offers of accommodation 
- Produce statistics and reports for temporary accommodation and choice based lettings 
- Assist in the implementation of new policies, procedures and legislation 
- Attend and participate in meetings and training events 
- Any other duties relevant to the position and appropriate to the grading of the post 

About you: 

- 5 GCSE`s at grades A – C, including mathematics, or equivalent level of qualification 
- Full and current driving licence and use of car for insured for business purposes 
- A good knowledge of housing legislation and tenancy law 
- A good knowledge of health and safety regulations relevant to letting, maintenance and managing accommodation 
- Ability to use IT systems 
- Excellent oral and written communication skills 
- Experience of undertaking interviews and investigations 
- Experience of dealing with vulnerable people and people who are distressed 
- Understanding of and commitment to anti-discriminatory practice 
- Willingness to attend meetings and undertake visits out of office hours when necessary 
- Must be mobile enough to undertake visits to customers in their homes, this will involve climbing stairs 

If you have the following experience or qualifications – it`s a bonus: 

- Professional housing qualification 
- Knowledge of Abritas, the housing database 
- Knowledge of tenancy law and housing legislation 
- Knowledge of welfare rights 
- Experience of working in local government or social housing environment
