Housing Needs Officer

Position: Housing Needs Officer 
Location: Milton Park, Didcot 
Job Type: Full Time, 12 months fixed term contract 
Hours: 37 hours per week 
Salary: £33,225 per annum

About the role: 

They are now recruiting for a Housing Needs Officer to build upon their success in preventing homelessness and in finding housing solutions. The aim of the Housing Needs team is to ensure people in housing need have access to the housing and support necessary to meet their needs. 


- Prevent homelessness arising wherever possible by working with people at risk of becoming homeless, providing them with advice and support to enable them to either sustain their existing accommodation or secure suitable alternative accommodation 
- Focus upon working with rough sleepers and vulnerable single people at risk of homelessness to provide the best access to housing and support services 
- Liaise with Social Services, Health Authorities, Registered Providers and other statutory and voluntary agencies to prevent homelessness and secure appropriate support for their customers 
- Undertake formal homelessness assessments in accordance with relevant legislation 
- Meet challenging individual and team performance targets for preventing homelessness and providing a high-quality service 
- Undertake home visits 
- Represent the housing needs team at meetings with other service areas at the council and external agencies 
- Maintain accurate case records and assist in the compilation of relevant statistics, reports and information 
- Acquire and maintain an up to date knowledge of homelessness and housing caselaw and legislation as well as any relevant local or national policies or initiatives 
- Undertake project work to help the continual develop the housing needs service, including achieving the Gold Standard for housing advice 
- Any other duties relevant to the position and appropriate to the grading of the post 

About you: 

- A degree or equivalent professional housing qualification 
- Significant experience of working in a housing environment 
- Full and current driving licence and use of car for business purposes 
- Experience of dealing with vulnerable people and people who are distressed 
- A comprehensive knowledge of homelessness legislation and tenancy law 
- Ability to use IT systems including Excel 
- Excellent oral and written communication skills 
- Willingness to attend meetings and work out of office hours when necessary 

If you have the following experience – it`s a bonus 

- Membership of CIH 
- Familiarity with the district and in particular housing issues 
- Knowledge of Abritas, the housing database 
- Local government experience 
- Knowledge of housing legislation and welfare benefits 

You may have experience of the following: Supported Housing Officer, Housing Officer, Supported Housing, Project Worker, Property Management, Property Manager, Neighbourhood Housing Officer etc.
