Given our ambitious and exciting growth plans for the future we are looking for someone to manage the logistical operations processes to enable manufacturing and production continuity. The role will involve strategic material planning, warehousing and materials feed to line. This opportunity will take a co-ordinating lead, working closely with internal and external parties to ensure scheduling, receipt, storage and feed of materials support manufacturing requirements. The role will have day-to-day management responsibilities for an extensive team of material planners and warehouse staff.

- Contribute to the definition and implementation of best practice logistics strategy, processes and procedures to support and improve operational performance
- Overall responsibility for all Materials Planning and Warehouse activities across the business
- Review opportunities to improve operational and financial performance and to ensure minimal operational disruption and maximum internal and external customer satisfaction
- Evaluate operational challenges and take steps to mitigate risks and develop opportunities

- Ensure that a material scheduling strategy and processes work effectively in order to ensure material supply meets production requirements with minimum stock levels and optimised costs
- Take ownership of material planning issues that arise, including over or under delivery and take any follow up actions especially in the event of material shortages that affect production
- Assess volume requirements against planning assumptions
- Manage inventory risk and ensure that contingency plans are in place
- Design, develop and implement flexible solutions to aid business efficiency, drive process improvements and add value
- Support continuous improvement initiatives
- Ensure that the Material Requirements Planning system (MRP) is effective and that data is accurate and up to date and resolve any issues as required
- Take overall responsibility for obsolete parts process and ensure business is left with minimum liability and minimal waste
- Ensure strategic and operational information, reports and metrics are available to share with others in the business as and when required
- Report on achievement of targets and identify any corrective action
- Oversee and manage inventory integrity and review ways to reduce inventory levels
- Ensure that plans, schedules and performance metrics are available and regularly report progress to others
- Manage all aspect of transportation involved in the collection of material from the supply base.
- Oversee the design, development and implementation of returnable packaging, including the associated budgetary management.

- Manage, coach and develop direct reports
- Set department objectives and monitor ongoing progress and performance
- Ensure strong communication between team and other internal departments to facilitate exchange of information and in order to implement resolution, change and improvements
- Ensure that all functions under supervision operate in accordance with health, safety and environmental policies and procedures to ensure the safety of staff and visitors
- Responsible for developing the appropriate organisational structure, resource plans and culture to support the business objectives and customer deliverables
- Complete regular performance reviews, manage attendance, holidays, disciplinary issues and procedures as appropriate
- Work with the senior management team to translate strategy into specific annual performance goals and team objectives. including KPIs, and to track them

- Oversee and optimise costs in relation to packaging and transportation arrangements

- Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders and work collaboratively to ensure Materials Planning and Warehousing objectives are being met
- Ensure performance of suppliers, logistics partners, transportation companies etc and make improvements and cost savings where possible
- Ensure on time, high quality delivery to all customers
- Work collaboratively, negotiate and engage with key stakeholders to facilitate parts delivery in support of manufacturing requirements.
- Maintain excellent relationships with suppliers and monitor performance and progress of deliveries to ensure internal customer satisfaction while optimising costs

- Leadership and management skills with the ability to optimise team performance and development

- Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate and manage key stakeholders, customers and external providers
- Commercially and financially astute with experience of managing budgets
- Analytical, problem solving and organisational skills
- Results orientated with the ability to plan and prioritise multiple projects of self and others and to deliver against objectives and deadlines
- In depth understanding of ERP systems, ideally Epicor.

Educated to degree level with relevant industry experience

- Previous experience of leading logistics functions within an automotive or manufacturing environment with expert knowledge and understanding of automotive processes and components and of supply chain management
- Supplier management skills
- Knowledge of lean, kaizen, six sigma and other associated techniques
