Exciting permanent opportunity to head up Safety on a prestigious multi-billion pound road/tunnelling project in the South East. Based out of London you will be responsible for managing all project related safety strategy to ensure the project is delivered as safely as possible. Experience of H&S in a tunnelling environment will be a distinct advantage. You must be a strong character, able to lead the project, but also to challenge the norm.

Principal Accountabilities:

* The delivery of the project's Health and Safety Management System
* Managing resources proactively by planning and working with others, to ensure the project team has access to appropriate health and safety support
* Managing and developing capacity, capability, expertise and professionalism of the project team
* Building effective relationships with a wide range of stakeholders, influence across boundaries and inform project delivery of Health and Safety
* Being a dedicated focal lead within the project supporting the project manage
* Part of the project team and senior management team, accountable for: championing the health and safety function; supporting the development of the Project health and safety agenda; providing functional input to team decisions; and shared accountability for these decisions
* Development and implementation of Project health and safety risk profiling, planned health and safety assurance activities and reporting, to agreed standards and timescales.
* Implementation of programmes to develop safety leadership behaviours, worker and supply chain engagement with the safety value, and promote safety culture.
Areas of focus:

* Monitor the performance and provide coaching support to project team to deliver health and safety programmes and initiatives.
* Use data and feedback on the effectiveness of policy, systems and processes to improve performance and inform strategy and decision-making.
* Assure incident investigation and reporting across the project.
* Prepare reports and present papers where required.
* Contributing to the development of the project assurance plans, risk profiles, reports, engagement plans etc.
* Supporting the delivery of objectives to agreed timescales

Health and safety core competencies:

* Knowledge of health and safety legislation, its interpretation as translated into good health and safety practice (Essential)
* Knowledge of the design, construct, operate and maintain asset lifecycle (Essential)
* Relationship and stakeholder management
* Developing safety culture and behaviours
* A degree or NEBOSH Diploma in Health and Safety (Essential)
* A degree in a science or engineering discipline (Desirable)
* Membership of a recognised engineering or safety professional body, e.g. CMIOSH (Essential)
* Lead Auditor qualification (Desirable)
* Recognised Incident Investigation qualification (Desirable)

Experience:

* Demonstrable experience of working with senior project management to deliver H&S objectives (Essential)
* Prior management / leadership experience in leading dispersed teams (Essential)
* Leading collaborative interactions to plan, manage, monitor and coordinate health and safety issues and risks (Essential)
