The job:

The Technical Lead will be required to work with both the architecture and technology teams to establish the most appropriate designs for the projects being delivered. The role holder will be translating architectural designs and blue prints into systems design for teams to build according to architectural strategy and road-map.

The Technical Lead will mentor and guide the development teams in best practice and support their personal development plans. As part of this aspect of the role, frequent feedback on individual performance to line managers will be an important part of this role.

Finally, the Technical Lead will provide a key role in advising and influencing the IT Delivery Management team on road-maps for the relevant technologies such that non-project time across the teams can be invested in evolving the platforms, paying back technical debt and generally doing what needs to be done to keep our platforms effective and reduce barriers to future project delivery.

What you’ll do:

  • Accountable for the approach and standards for the development of solutions using .Net and other related technologies.
  • Work closely with the Architecture and Design to teams to ensure that Architectural standards, practices and blue prints are adopted by the project teams
  • To provide development support and to liaise with both colleagues and third parties to deliver on Society objectives to timescales and/or Service Level Agreements (SLA) agreements.
  • To ensure high quality of software, ensuring the team adhere to required standards. Ensure that code and peer reviews are undertaken.
  • To act as the escalation point for technical issues and act to resolve issues which are flagged, in order that few and only critical issues are escalated to line management.
  • To act as a source of technical expertise for the team where challenges arise and to take decisions to ensure teams achieve their business critical objectives.
  • Provide coaching/mentoring to colleagues.
  • Quality review unit tests to ensure usefulness of tests.
  • Ensure best practices are employed by the team with a view to continuous improvement.
  • Playing a key role in influencing and championing to ensure decisions are made a timely manner.
  • Estimation via ROM, t-short and story points where required/asked.
  • Play an active role in grouping product backlog items as part of the delivery planning.
  • Actively seeking out opportunities to improve our systems or how we use technical solutions to improve organisational performance, e.g. language, tool, processes.
  • Build relationships with and role model effective working across teams/functions
  • Be actively involved in sprint demo's, including preparation.
  • Attend sprint retrospectives to discuss issues with a view to continuous improvement via agreed actions.
  • Accountable for the approach and standards for the development of solutions using .Net and other related technologies.
  • Facilitate the creation of standards and policies for the development and management of applications within the Group.
  • Work with development teams to ensure standards are maintained and kept relevant.
  • Govern the adherence to agreed standards and act as the authority to approve exceptions.
  • Undertake application and development consultancy for both the business and IT.
  • Work with developers to agree and promote best practice.
  • Create technical designs and proof of concept solutions to support the ongoing requirements of the business.
  • Evaluate and recommend products and/or services from external software and solution providers.

The role demands good working relationships with colleagues both in IT and the wider business, a strong customer focus and excellent communication skills. Work must be delivered on time, to high quality and within budget.

The role holder will be measured on the vital part they play in the delivery against objectives and therefore they need to be motivated and have a genuine desire to see their team develop and deliver.

Significant experience in a hands on development role in relevant technologies is essential as well as demonstrable experience in application design and integration.
