A new and exciting opportunity has arisen for a Technical Authority Manager to lead a multi-disciplinary team of Engineers on a COMAH site within the highly regulated gas industry, to be based in London.

The client is a leading name in their market – crossing over transport and storage operations. Their operations span across the whole of the UK and into Europe. They are currently undergoing major regeneration of their infrastructure with the aim of improving safety and efficiency and reducing costs.

The Technical Authority Manager will report to the Director and as Technical Authority for the site, alongside managing overarching infrastructure development projects and a team of multidisciplinary engineers. Key to this role is the ability to make sound judgements and technical decisions based on facts, budgets and time restrictions.

  • Lead a team of multi-disciplinary professional engineers who conduct Engineering activities and have responsibility for a number of discovery, definition and development stages of projects/engineering works at any one time.
  • Act as Technical Authority for the site – making justified technical decisions and ensuring all Engineering works are carried out safely and to all guidelines and external regulations.
  • Support the Engineering Project investment decision making process and ensure all decisions are made in line with the organisation’s long term strategic development plans.
  • Build strong and credible working relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • HSEQ is a core function within this position – the successful candidate will have previous knowledge of HSEQ regulations within a COMAH environment and be able to effectively communicate key procedures and principles.

The successful applicant will:

  • Be degree qualified or equivalent in an Engineering related subject. A Masters degree would be desirable - as would previous experience in rotating equipment/pipeline Engineering. 
  • Have previously interacted with the competent authority and acted as Technical Authority personally.
  • Be aware of budget creation processes and keeping engineering works in line with this in the long term.
  • Have an interest in disciplines outside of their own – with an ability to effectively contribute to all Engineering related discussions.
  • Strong leadership skills inclusive of previous line management responsibility.
  • Thorough understandings of industry standards to ensure all decisions are made in line with the correct technical judgement.
