Our client, one of the world's leading fusion research laboratories, based on the outskirts of Oxfordshire is looking for a Windows System Administrator to join their team on a permanent basis.

We are seeking a person to join our System Administrator team to work on a large heterogeneous number of Windows based PC systems associated with data acquisition, control, plant interfacing and various real time data feeds, operating in an industrial like environment. These systems interface with a variety of hardware ranging from embedded interface cards, attached video cameras through to network attached PLC`s.

The main responsibilities of the role will include:
* Maintenance & support for a large number of existing Windows data acquisition and control systems and deployment of new systems.
* Liaising with users, suppliers and developers to integrate and support online Instrumentation and Control (I&C) systems.
* Front-line support and problem-solving.
* Develop and manage a system architecture as a template for new systems.
* Windows workstation and server domain administration.

The candidate should have good organisational skills, be self-motivated, and show initiative to explore new solutions.

Essential Aptitudes and Experience
* At least 5 years` experience managing PC/Windows systems.
* Detailed understanding of Microsoft Workstation & Server administration and Disaster Recovery (DR) processes.
* Knowledge of Microsoft Windows Embedded, legacy PC operating systems (previous versions of Windows, MS-DOS, etc.)
* Good understanding of networking.
* Microsoft IIS and Java servlet-based web servers.
* Experience of the support of data acquisition software and hardware.
* Outgoing personality suitable for working in a diverse team.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Educated to at least HND level in a computer science or control engineering discipline or equivalent professional qualifications.

Desirable Experience
* Experience in a scientific/industrial environment.
* Windows domain administration.
* Experience of software development in C++ and Object Oriented design principles and software development methodologies.
* Development of software for data acquisition and automation on the Windows platform.
* Familiarity with commercial data acquisition systems such as National Instruments NI-Daq and Labview.
* Interoperability with Linux systems.
* Working with and developing software interfaces for hardware devices such as ADC`s, signal conditioning, trigger and timing systems and control interfaces.
* Experience with National Instruments NI-DAQ.
* Experience interfacing to PLCs
