Technical Product Engineer

An exciting opportunity for a competent mechanically biased project engineer or design engineer to progress into project management.
To manage a number of research and development projects to cover both new products and update existing designs, covering all aspects and taking them from initial concept through to product launch.
To provide technical support for products and processes to both internal and external customers.
To ensure that goals and objectives of the department are accomplished within prescribed time frame and funding parameters.


To identify new product potential and present these ideas internally.
To manage a number of projects from primary concept through to product launch.
Personally take control of each aspect of the project including planning, design, budgeting, procurement, prototyping and testing.
Complete project documentation and lease with the relevant departments to ensure a smooth transition into production.
Work closely with external organisations including suppliers and third party test houses.
Produce clear and concise designs for both internal reviews and procurement.
Review current products with an aim to improve designs, materials and/or processes.
Review manufacturing procedures with an aim to reduce construction time or assist with ease of manufacture.
To provide technical support to internal departments as necessary on both product and build process activities.

Degree qualified in a mechanical engineering discipline or equivalent.
4 years of proven, successful design/project engineering experience preferably within the Oil and Gas / Petrochemical environment or similarly regulated field. Some Research and Development based project experience would also be an advantage.
Exposure to the running of a project from the initial specification through to product launch whilst being able to plan, work both independently and as part of a team, and completing project specific Milestones in an organised and timely manner.
Be able to visualise a design with the ability to produce concise 3D CAD models and engineering manufacturing drawings. Experience of CREO (Pro-Engineer) would be preferable.
Good communication and interpersonal skills are needed as is the ability to interface effectively with customers, supplier and other departments within the business.
Knowledge of process design within an Oil and Gas environment would be an advantage with specific understanding / knowledge of ATEX, IECEx or other Hazardous Area certifications.
An understanding of CFD/FEA for mechanical and/or thermal design.
Knowledge of electrical theory.
Exposure to control systems for mechanical equipment.
