An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Mechanical Engineer with specialist knowledge of the medical device industry and manufacture of high complexity devices to join a rapidly growing organisation based in Cambridge. This is an exciting time to join a busy project based department as they consolidate their position within multiple markets across their industry. 

The client is a manufacturer and designer of medical device components with numerous operations and office bases throughout the UK. In recent years they have diversified their service offering and are now looking to expand their Engineering function over the next 18 months.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will hold responsibility for managing and competing activities associated with the development and design of medical devices.  The role is all encompassing – the ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team and under your own initiative is essential.

This role not only focusses on continuous improvement but also new product introduction, validation, quality and all associated technical aspects.

Key duties associated with this role will include:

- Development of new products from early stage concepts ready for trial stages.
- Leading technical work streams and carrying out a range of engineering activities to identify, design and develop new products.
- Lead, plan and execute small projects to agreed timescales and in line with project protocols.
- Management of technical activities including directing technical design work and liaising with Project Managers.
- Directing and mentoring work carried out by colleagues to support their personal development.
- Utilising product and project knowledge to draft technical reports and design documentation.
- Adopting a continuous improvement approach by consistently developing new skills to help the wider company achieve a competitive advantage.

The Senior Mechanical Engineer will have:

- A thorough understanding of medical device design and development – through to clinical trial stage.
- Degree in an Engineering related subject or Physics/Mathematics.
- Experience in taking on a technical lead role in product development projects.
- Experience and in depth knowledge of 3D CAD systems (e.g. Solidworks)
- A good understanding of validation requirements for Medical Devices
- Knowledge of high volume plastics manufacturing processes
- The ability to mentor or coach and a “can do” attitude


There is an excellent package on offer for this exciting opportunity. The salary is negotiable dependent on experience with future progression opportunities in line with company growth.

The company is also offering a relocation package for candidates with all of the requisite skills and previous experience within the medical devices industry.

The working week is 37.5 hours, 7.5 hours per day.
