Underwriting Team Leader and Duty Manager

£20,000 - £24,000 per annum


Are you an experienced Underwriting Team Leader or Manager who is looking for the next step in your career? Do you have experience in general insurance underwriting and a sound understanding of the general insurance sector?

Cordant People Cardiff are currently working with an expanding and forward thinking organisation based in Cardiff. We are looking to recruit a candidate with a good knowledge of general insurance and experience in team leadership to take on a new role within our client's organisation.

You will be responsible the day to day operational management of the Underwriting team. Ensuring adequate resources are available to meet departmental KPI's. You will provide leadership to the team and ensure both personal and team performances promote first class service and meet all required goals and targets.

Your main responsibilities will include:

* Manage the workload of the team, allocation of resources to ensure KPI's are met or exceeded.
* Lead the team to deliver world class customer service, reviewing processes and providing training as required to deliver a culture of world class service and continuous improvement.
* Ensuring the Underwriting Licensing Framework is adhered to at all times.
* Lead, direct and motivate the operational team to ensure that all client contact via phones and LiveChat are answered with the aim that no calls/LiveChats are abandoned/lost.
* Perform Duty Manager Role as part of the Sales Operations supervisory pool.
* Act as liaison for Underwriting with all other departments to resolve any issues.
* Identify any changing needs of the Underwriting team. Highlight/recommend potential areas of improvement and undertake implementation of all required improvements.
* Ensure all members of the Underwriting team have a detailed understanding of products, policies and underwriting manuals.
* Develop both individuals and team to realise maximum capabilities and potential of both.
* Continuously monitor and assess the underwriting competency level within the underwriting area addressing any issues through process management.
* Coordinating monthly insurer change testing as well as facilitating ongoing project testing.
* Adhere to the standards, procedures and best practices of the Company to ensure compliance with FCA, Regulatory and Company Policy requirements.
* Manage and deploy the staff to ensure the daily rota and sales operations area are fully covered through the full opening hours.

We are looking for a driven and motivational manager with first class customer service skills and the desire to lead and drive others.

Role requirements:

* Excellent organisational and prioritisational skills.
* Strong management and leadership skills with a good understanding of team motivation.
* Insurance qualifications preferred but are not essential.
* Ability to work as part of a team.
* Excellent communication skills, verbal & written.
* Strong internal and external customer focus coupled with a "can do" work ethic.
* Excellent Coaching & Feedback skills.
