Our client, based in Woking, Surrey, is currently recruiting for a Portfolio Manager to provide governance over the project management team and deliver Infrastructure and Improvement projects across the business on a permanent basis.

The successful individual will be responsible for ensuring the appropriate level of governance is applied across all Core Platforms projects and ensure they are completed within defined timescales, cost and quality criteria.

Key responsibilities:
• Provide leadership, governance and line manage a team of Project Managers including 1 to 1’s, appraisals and personal development plans
• Scope, plan and deliver IT projects using a structured method and approach to planning, requirements gathering, risk and issue management, change management and resource management
• Work with business stakeholders to assess the impact of project decisions and set realistic expectations around delivery approaches, costs and timelines
• Ensure successful delivery of large infrastructure projects
• Assess, control and manage the risks to the project, prepare mitigation and contingency plans and have responsibility for project administration, record keeping and status reporting
• Ensure projects are delivered in line with project delivery methodology & standards
• Be involved with and be hands on with managing some technical projects

Key Skills & experience:
• A strong background as a programme or portfolio manager looking after infrastructure and technical projects is essential to this role
• A strong technical career and background is essential. You will need to be highly knowledgeable of a wide range of technologies
• A very good understanding of the whole project delivery lifecycle
• Proven track record of managing a team of Project Managers is essential
• Be happy to still be hands on managing a project
• Understanding of delivery methodologies e.g. Waterfall, Agile, Scrum
• Strong organisational, time management and planning skills to drive and deliver projects
• An excellent and able communicator providing information at all levels and provide information to a diverse stakeholder group
• Excellent stakeholder management skills
• Demonstrates creativity in identifying opportunities and finding solutions
• Flexible approach to continually adapt within a dynamic workplace
