My clients are looking to appoint an Assistant Design Manager to join their team at their head office in Hull.

My clients are an established main contractor, operating for over 40 years and now employing over 100 members of staff. Working predominantly within the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region they deliver projects in the following sectors Commercial, Education, Energy, Healthcare, Higher and Further Education, Housing, Industrial, Leisure, Listed Buildings, Public, Regeneration and Retail

As an Assistant Design Manager, you will assist and support the Design Manager in co-ordinating the activities of the external design consultants. The successful candidate will assist on pre-construction activities and tender opportunities, control and interrogate the activities of external design consultants. The Assistant Design Manager will play a vital role in coordinating the design work involved across the entire construction process, from the work of design teams and architects, through the planning phases, to final construction


• Establish a platform for good communication and collaboration between relevant parties and thereby an effective flow of design and production information
• Ensure that the project has been de-risked of all design problems by finding solutions before they materialise
• Assist in the design process to produce accurate information in line with the agreed specification and cost plan/estimate
• Assist in the management of the appointment of consultants and ensure that they perform in line with their agreed scope of services
• Assist in the design programme with the consultants to meet the agreed whole life programme dates
• Provide cost effective technical solutions
• Attend design team meetings
• Assist in producing designs that meet all necessary statutory and regulatory approvals and record on appropriate tracking logs
• Provide technical support to the bid process
• Assist in managing multiple projects or projects of a complex nature or high value
• Engage with the project team and Principle Designer to mitigate all health and safety risks
• Close out identified project risks

Personal Attributes

• Educated to degree level in a construction related qualification
• Strong attention to detail
• Excellent communication, writing and editing skills.
• Self-starter and able to work within a team.
• Ability to work to tight deadlines in high pressure situations.
• A strong command of spoken and written English with ability to edit technical language.
• IT competence in packages such as Microsoft Word, Excel, and Power Point.
• Full driving licence
• An appropriate and valid CSCS card
