Do you have experience working with people who are having housing issues? Do you feel confident offering advice and support with regards to retaining a tenancy, preventing homelessness and obtaining benefits? Are you able to travel independently in the Wakefield area? Then read on, as we may have suitable position for you.

We have a fantastic new opportunity available for a full time contract role working as a Community Support Worker in the Wakefield area. This position is 35 hours, Monday to Friday (no weekends or bank holidays worked). General working hours tend to be 8.30am until 4.00pm but the service is flexible with this if you wanted to start anytime before 9.30am.

This service provides support in the community to vulnerable adults who require help in their tenancies. Clients have a variety of needs that have led to a risk of homelessness (such as mental health, substance misuse, domestic violence) so we are looking for someone who feels confident handling sensitive and complex issues. You will assist clients with things like benefits, eviction notices and general upkeep of their tenancy. Clients are usually placed in support for a period of 6 months, so this is an intensive programme in which you have to be dedicated in helping your client move on independently.

As it's a community based role, you are lone working and would benefit from having access to a car, although this isn't essential, as you'll be covering a large area. A new starter in the role will be given a full induction and shadow shifts in order to become familiar with the work and your client base. Following this you will be expected to handle your own caseload and work independently, but will be included as a permanent member of the staff team and attend all training/meetings held at the local hub office.

The position pays £9.53 per hour but this includes your holiday entitlement so any leave will be taken unpaid. This is a long term contract until April 2018 at which point the position will be reviewed.

If you have the skills and experience we require, please do not hesitate to apply as we are holding immediate interviews and want someone to start as soon as possible. If you have further questions about the position, please call Amy on (Apply online only).
