Microbiologist - Pharmaceutical - GMP - £18k-£19k- Cambridge- Plate Counting - Gram Staining - Media Preparation - Plate Pouring - QC

A busy contract testing lab requires an experienced Microbiologist to join its Pharmaceutical division. You will assist in the running of the laboratory and provide some technical support to the laboratory management. You must have proven microbiology experience within a GMP lab and be confident in being the technical point of reference for junior technicians.

The Role:

* To perform general microbiology work allocated without deviation from the documented methodology and / or procedure whilst maintaining high levels of quality control.
* To perform plate counting, identification and confirmation testing.
* To inform the laboratory management team of any problems or doubts concerning the ability to perform allocated tests.
* To inform the laboratory management team in advance if agreed deadlines for work completion are unlikely to be met.
* To enter results in line with the deadlines set by the method and client requirements.
* To conform with all quality management and health and safety procedures and protocols.
* To perform analysis within the time scales required and ensure that result availability is in line with method and client expectations.
* To notify the laboratory management team if any stocks require replenishing.
* Ensure that the laboratory areas are kept clean and tidy. To remove waste frequently and ensure it is disposed of in the correct manner.
* To ensure that all records are completed concisely and accurately with paperwork written in clear handwriting.
* To have an understanding of the companies safety requirements as set out in the safety manual.
* To immediately bring to the attention of the Laboratory Manager any unsafe practice.
* To work with the Laboratory Manager to rectify any unsafe practice.
* To develop and further improve the safety culture within the business unit.
* To comply with the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) requirements of the business.
* To report any incident or near miss to a senior member of the team.

Experience Required:

* Degree in Microbiology or related subject OR equivalent experience
* Proven microbiology experience within a GMP lab
