Strategic Sourcing & Vendor Manager

An exciting and unique opportunity has been created for a Strategic Sourcing & Vendor Manager to join a newly formed team who will be responsible for managing relationships with key vendors across the end-to-end ICT landscape for a recognised UK organisation.

The newly created Service Delivery and Vendor Management department will be responsible for providing the appropriate capabilities for the ICT Directorate and will focus on creating defined sourcing models and vendor management structures, measured against corporate priorities. The department will own demand and resource plans and will aim to drive effective utilization of vendors through appropriate performance management metrics.

The role will be responsible for developing and managing relationships with vendors who supply ICT products and services to the business and ensuring that those vendors meet or exceed performance metrics. It will lead on the development and implementation of a strategic vendor management capability ensuring that vendors provide flexibility, value-for-money and creative ways of working to the business whilst avoiding lock-in to poorly performing vendors or technologies.

Key responsibilities will include:

- The ownership and accountability of the Strategic Vendor Management and Sourcing function, developing the shape, capacity and capability of the team to support and deliver operational objectives
- Managing outward communication to vendors to facilitate the understanding and awareness of organisational strategic direction, changes and challenges
- Managing the interaction between vendors and internal program delivery leads
- Working with demand and capacity leaders to ensure alignment to plans to support in-progress programme delivery and future policy and strategic delivery
- To own and manage the view of the ICT Vendor landscape and associated contracts to inform appropriate and timely engagement in the contract management lifecycle, including:
- Define and implement improvement plans
- Define, manage, prioritise and report on value-add/innovative programmes of work with designated vendors
- Make informed decisions to recommend and implement changes as required to improve vendor performance
- Identify commercial sourcing opportunities and support the tendering, implementation and negotiation of new contracts and contract renewals

Required experience and skills:

The successful candidate will have the confidence and credibility to challenge the norm, constantly reviewing and assessing the best routes to market to meet business needs. The role will suit someone with a proven track record in a multi-disciplinary IT environment in either the public or private sectors. In addition, candidates must have:

- Strong commercial acumen including demonstrable external contract or vendor management experience including contract negotiation, including experience in outsourcing, managed services or Cloud environments
- Strong programme and project management experience or technical delivery experience
- Experience of using KPIs/SLAs and other measures to drive vendor performance
- Experience of how to develop and manage strategic partnerships
In addition, candidates must have a strong understanding of the evolving IT marketplace and the potential affects on the business. This is a leadership role so the ability to organise, inspire and influence are non-negotiables.
