Southend-on-Sea Borough Council is offering an exciting opportunity for passionate and knowledgeable Support Workers to join an Edge of Care Team to work alongside and support families. The aim of the team is to keep children out of care, to prevent them becoming looked after and to work intensively with identified foster families where the placement is assessed as at risk of breaking down. As a support worker you will achieve this through improving outcomes whilst providing professional and comprehensive advice to the family unit.
This job is being offered on a full time basis for 37 hours per week from 8am – 11pm on a shift rotation. It will include working evenings and weekends. There are 2 vacancies and they are being offered on a Fixed Term Contract basis until June 2018.

The vacancy will be located within the Edge of Care team, and will build upon the core elements of the service already in place, ensuring families access all the existing services and the Troubled Families programme. The multi-disciplinary team will be available to support families 7 days a week between the hours of 8am and 11pm, reflecting the fact that a family’s needs don’t stop outside of office hours. Workers will work side by side with schools, children’s centres, families, foster carers and their Social Workers, using proven methodologies such as motivational interviewing and brief solution focused therapy; supporting families to address issues that may result in the removal of their children.

Support Workers will be a key point of contact to asses and refer their case work appropriately through being aware of the relevant legislation and ensure the needs of the family are met. You will be in a position to have a proactive involvement in planning measurable outcomes and reaching targets through ensuring a holistic approach is taken to meet their needs through reviews, court work and liaison.

The team are seeking someone who is qualified to degree level in a relevant subject OR has relevant experience working with children, young people and families. To be effective in this job, you must have knowledge and understanding of the effect of social and economic disadvantage on young people and families. You must have experience of working with families and children with a passion to empower families to change to give them a better quality of life.
