Looking for YOT Officers to work as part of a multi agency team of staff providing an integrated approach to the delivery of services to achieve the principal aim of the Youth Offending Service which is to prevent offending and re-offending by young people. Start asap - November 2017. Contract role 36hrs per week.

PURPOSE OF JOB
- Working within the requirements of relevant legislation, guidance and the National Standards governing the youth justice field, to deliver appropriate oversight, supervision and support to young people and their families.
- As part of a multi-agency Youth Offending Service, to provide a comprehensive service to young people and their families involved in, or at risk of offending.
- Responsibility for assessments of risk of re-offending, risk of vulnerability and risk of serious harm by young people, and the completion of intervention plans and risk management plans to address identified need.
Responsibility for the preparation of reports including Pre-Sentence and Referral Order Reports in line with National Standards
To manage statutory programmes and interventions for young people subject to all statutory orders, including custody, in line with National Standards
The post-holder will have overall case responsibility for all orders and reports allocated to them and will be expected to prepare cases for variation, revocation or breach where relevant
- To develop, contribute towards and participate in programmes of intervention designed to prevent re-offending, individually and in group work settings.
To participate in a duty rota system, interviewing young people and carers, responding to telephone enquiries and communicating with external agencies as necessary.
- To maintain performance against standards and targets set by clients YOS and by the YJB
- Responsible for recording effectively on the Youth Offending Services’ computerised recording systems and maintaining accurate and timely records of all work undertaken.
Education, Training & Qualifications

Candidates must hold a recognised qualification in Social Work or be a qualified Probation Officer (PO2) or educated to degree level with substantial experience of working with vulnerable adolescents. (PO1)

Knowledge & Experience
- At least 18 months experience of working with young people or related vulnerable groups and tangible experience of working professionally within a criminal justice setting of at least 12 months.
- Able to demonstrate understanding of Criminal Justice legislation and other relevant legislation including that relating to Children and Young People.
- Knowledge of the current legislation relating to the reduction of offending by young people
- Knowledge of the role of Effective Practice in reducing re-offending and experience of delivering interventions in keeping with this.
- Understanding of developing YOT services to meet the needs of young people, victims and the community
- Familiar with, and experience of, the application of restorative justice principles
- Experience of undertaking assessments and writing reports including Pre-Sentence Reports.
