A long-standing public sector group are partnered with Hays to recruit a finance professional with all-round bookkeeping experience. Given the job requirements as well as the nature of the business, being involved in multiple entities spanning education and events, the role is exciting and varied. You will be joining a small finance team within a larger administration department who are welcoming and customer focused. This is a permanent, full-time opportunity.

Your new role
As the Bookkeeper/Accounts Assistant, you will report directly to the Finance Manager carrying out all-round bookkeeping duties and producing the monthly management accounts. This will involve maintaining the sales and purchase ledgers, undertaking daily bank reconciliations, monitoring credit card activity, processing BACS payments, preparing and paying quarterly VAT, and debt recovery. You will also be involved in payroll, preparing the necessary information for part time and temporary staff to be sent to an external payroll bureau, and handling end of year payroll and monthly payments to HMRC.

What you'll need to succeed
The successful candidate will have strong bookkeeping skills and experience, having carried out the duties detailed above including medium to high volume processing. You will have high quality analytical and numerical skills with the ability to detect and solve inconsistencies and improve processes and procedures. The client is looking for an individual with a flare for saving costs and time. You will be organised and patient with attention to detail, efficiently and accurately inputting data. Success will be determined by your ability to engage and add value. You will have strong interpersonal skills with the willingness to assist beyond the job requirements.

What you'll get in return
Joining a small and friendly team in a varied role you will gain a view of accounts in their entirety. You will receive a generous salary of between £25,000 and £27,000 depending on experience. Working hours are 9am-5pm Monday to Thursday and 9am-3:30pm on Friday. Further to this, you will be offered an impressive pension scheme and generous holiday allowance, including 20 days annual leave per annum plus usual public holidays and a Christmas break.
