Linux System Administrator (SysAdmin)

Background:

The FCA is an information- and technology-centred organisation, with a significant proportion of the total FCA budget allocated to these areas. This makes the organisation a great place to develop technical, architectural, delivery and design skills and careers. The organisation has historically favoured an outsourced route for application and infrastructure delivery however is now exploring the opportunity to insourcing.

What Does the Job Involve:

This role will consist of the following activities-

  • Action incident / problem cases related to the support of customer systems in line with Service Level Agreements
  • Liaise with customer directly in the case of major incidents
  • Automation of pro-active maintenance tasks and activities
  • Produce statistical information as required to support ITIL reports
  • Assist in project build and delivery by Service Delivery teams
  • Ensure your knowledge of the platforms is accurately maintained and play a role in supporting the transfer of skills
  • Monitor service trends to identify opportunities for improvement plans and input to roadmaps
  • Work with multiple service teams to plan, deploy, and support large scale AWS services and features
  • The role will undertake complex tasks, provide expert technical advice and provide guidance / mentoring to more junior developers on the team.
  • Will work with minimal supervision although may refer to more senior team members for very complex or sensitive matters. May act as a team leader for more junior staff

Minimum Skills:

  • Linux (RHEL/RedHat 7)
  • Workload Migration and Automation
  • Open Source tooling
  • Infrastructure provisioning, management and automation (Chef)
  • Scripting in Bash/Perl/Ruby/Python/JSON
  • Internet technologies (TCP/IP/Mail/DNS/Web)
  • RDBMS database technology
  • ITIL

  • Experience with Agile software development practices
  • Experience with migrating to cloud platforms such as Amazon Web Services
  • Infrastructure (Server, Storage, and Database) discovery, design, build and migration experience
  • Experience with DevOps methodology, Continuous Delivery, and related tools, such as GitHub, Jenkins, Docker, Puppet, Chef, or equivalents.
  • Experience designing cloud native applications and architectures.
  • Adapts existing methods and procedures to create possible alternative solutions to moderately complex problems
  • Experience with Windows, LINUX/UNIX, DBMS such as MS SQL, and other technologies

AWS, RHEL and other technical certifications
