Salary - £20,000 - £25,000 + Overtime (Circa 3-4K) + 25 days holiday

The Company
Our client is a £20 million business specialising in bespoke mechanical testing services to the Defence, Aerospace, Automotive and many other industries. Their tests can place extreme stress and strain on a product as well as a huge range of temperatures.

They currently employ 12 in their test division and due to an internal promotion and also continuing growth within the company they are looking to recruit a Graduate Test Engineer to come in and learn all about their testing services. The role is very practical and will give you the opportunity to work with lots of different equipment allowing you to apply the engineering theory you have learnt during your degree.

The Role

The role of Graduate Test Engineer will involve:

The company are looking to offer graduates a huge amount of training and development in testing to someone with the right attitude. You would begin by shadowing an existing test or senior test engineer. In 1-2 years you will progress to be an established test engineer and your job will include:

Running environmental tests including vibration, noise, climatic and salt spray testing on a wide range of mechanical products and systems.

Setting up the test bed and product in the correct position to get the best possible test results.

An example test could be on a turbine blade and the specialist test equipment can vibrate the blade at incredibly high frequencies to see how it performs under pressure.

The customer is often on site for the test so you will update them with the test progress and keep them informed at all times.

Writing reports from testing activity and presenting these to the customer.

The Candidate
To be successful as a Graduate Test Engineer you will need:

Graduate in Mechanical Engineering or an equivalent degree i.e Aerospace Engineering, Motorsport, Automotive Engineering.

Some practical mechanical experience is a bonus, this could be through work or through personal interests (i.e car mechanics).

Good A-Levels & GCSE’s in Maths & Science subjects would be an advantage.

You will need to be happy physically setting up the tests, some of the equipment is large and requires the use of overhead cranes to attach the equipment to the test bed.

You should have an interest in Mechanical Engineering and be looking to get into a role that will involve both practical testing, analysing test data and then creating the required reports.
